I played with it a bit when you first posted the info, also with vlc (don't recall if V2 or not - I have 1 & 2). vlc seemed happy working from the higher level m3u and fetching the nested m3u's, but would not play anything for me, either.
FWIW, when dealing with http streaming, I always worry a bit about http headers, in particular useragent, as historically I've seen some sources constrain or block on that basis.(ie what does vlc send in header?)
I previously mentioned a google search; I don't remember which source ('cupertino' rings a bell) but for some reason I believe that the player is supposed to auto-increment the filename on an ongoing basis. Just did that search again; nothing is jumping out at me, sorry.
FYI - My dsl went flaky this afternoon and service truck won't arrive until Monday morning. In addition, some RL issues to deal with (funeral Sat.), so I may not active for a few days.
