Just testing r12014 and it's the same, XBMC comes up as 640x480 (been testing OE for ages now, this resolution problem is only a recent issue).

Your overclocking settings are to high when you see image crruptions. Go back to the normal clock settings and remove config_hdmi_boost/disable_overscan from config.txt to see if the problem is related to those settings.

It's nothing to do with overclocking.

I have just reformatted the ext4 partition, removed the config.txt file - so to be clear, there is no longer a config.txt file present in the primary partition - and booted XBMC, which came up with a resolution of 640x480.

You have to enable debug logging in xbmc. Settings -> System -> Debugging. Another question. When you adjust the display resolution after first boot, does it remain in the subsequent boots ?

I am using XBMC primarily as a music player, but occasionally I also use it to watch TV (actually, either a PC monitor or a projector). I use a build from June 23 for music, and a more recent build for TV. The reason is that the gapless music playback was broken at some point. But the June 23 build works perfectly for that. Is there any plans to bring back gapless playback? I think that none of the recent XBMC versions supports it.
