- OpenElec build r12837
- Xbmc build RC3 (10.01.2013)
- Special Rpi kernel 3.6.y (09.01.2013)
- Rpi firmware (09.01.2013)
- Pvr Addon (10.01.2013)
- Xvdr Addon (11.01.2013)
- Gpu memory set to 100mb on default (fix kernal killing Xbmc task on Rpi 256mb board)
- Memory cache set to 2621440 on default

Update Instruction:

http://openelec.tv/installation/updating

Set gpu_mem=100 in config.txt and cachemembuffersize to 2621440 in advencedsettings.

thank you for this.. I downloaded it and tried it on my 256MB Pi and we watched about 6 different 720p and 1080p videos last night with success - though I forgot to chance the cachemem setting.

A couple of observations - no idea if these are general issue or build specific though sorry:

- at the end of one movie when I fast forwarded through the credits (I suspected there was after credits video) that the audio playback was looping and playing at weird speeds even when the video was playing back at the correct 1X speed. just something minor.

- CPU usage was always around 90% (I was playing from a USB HDD, if that makes any difference for USB polling etc.)

I also had reports that "normal" builds works without the advancedsettings file now. But just the extra 28MB from GPU.
Or pherhabs you set it in the system wide file? it's not so transparent from the notes it kinda says both.

What about if you skip, does this cause buffering?

With xvid/avi they buffer when skipping (pretty sure they didnt use to) but all x246/mp4/mkv files will skip with no buffering.
(Page 74 a few other people say they notice buffering when skipping)

I went back to r12015 and it didnt seem to buffer when skipping with this file (only very occasionally but not consistently like it does now) . It also didnt seem to buffer when playing it back normally, but it would stutter much worse than recent builds.
I have a problem with 1080p 3DSBS files where the overlaying GUI only fills 1280x720 in the upper left corner when the pictures are put togheter. And the black half transparent bar where player controls are located stays at the "bottom" constantly. File stops playing after a few mins doesn't if 3DSBS is removed from file name.. Firmware from 09/01. Deleted guisettings.xml. Latest r12928 build.
Smile
I have been using OpenElec build r12837 with good resultsWink and last night tried r12914.SadSad.. just feedback about my experiences..

- OpenElec build r12914
- Gpu memory set to 100mb on default (fix kernal killing Xbmc task on Rpi 256mb board)
- Memory cache set to 2621440 on default

Experienced black frames about 6 over 10mins
Seek forward/back buffering got confused always going back to start of programme

After 1hr use back to r12837.. will try later builds later in week
Hi, can someone help with some simple advice. I want to build 2.99.1 RC1 from source for reasons which I can elaborate if necessary. I see there is a branch called openelec-3.0 which I guess is the right place so I do this:

git clone https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv.git openelec-3.0
cd openelec-3.0
git pull origin openelec-3.0

PROJECT=RPi ARCH=arm make

Is this correct approach ... Im guessing a bit ??

regards

Andy

Are the gpu_mem=100 and cachemembuffersize 2621440 parameters valid for both the 256mb and 512mb Raspberry PI kits?
Thanks a lot rbej much appeciated will test and return.

I was also thinking the same as above why don't you use the individual board setting parameter instead of the board wide one ie. gpu_mem_256 and 512 instead of just gpu_mem? It would save a edit to the file for first time 512MB board users without a config.txt.

And keep the advancedsettings out so people can just download it and throw it in through samba or the other way around although the first one sounds more logical imho.

Also jas0npc no longer have problems with RC1 without the advancedsettings file only GPU mem at 100.
I also snatched my old board I gave away back for one day and experienced the same for what I could test in the short time I had it back. The movie that allways crashed ran 3-4 times plus I tried some lengthy ones.

Yes but if you already have config.txt it will not be overwritten so you will keep your existing GPU mem setting. The cache setting you can "rollback" creating a new advancedsettings in userdata.

Edit: original question lol; yes it works fine "out of the box".

This one worked absolutely perfectl! GUI now fills whole screen and the tv detect 3D right away. The freeze after a few minuttes is also completely gone. Smile

Thanks a lot rbej! Keep up the nice work it's much appriciated!

Ps. Would you pherhabs consider making your future builds more universal.
Something completely odd though the bogomips is read as 700Mhz clock under systeminfo (I use force_turbo=1 so the static clock number is usually shown) the temperature keeps reads 72c a it's usually at 64c max.
Overclocking plus force_turbo=1 and all settings from config.txt are in effect though.

Something todo with the advancedsettings file that you use maybe? Or XBMC bug?
The temp seems correct though to my surprise when I tried 12929 again the temp was the same. It's probably me that had not paid enough attention or it has gotten more accurate with time.

Anyway in that case the only "bug" so far in you build or in XBMC compared to r12928 is that is showing bogomips for 700Mhz clock even though it runs a higher static clock.

Thanks again.
Hey Tuxen any chance of making a image of rebj custom build so us noob who follow you and run your image build can test it to.
Just update your image. Why would you need a new one?! He's even nice enough to put a link in he's signature on how to do it. And even a noob can follow that guide. Wink

Edit: Otherwise ask over at the other place and I'm sure someone will help you. Becuase it is kinda essential for using OE to be able to upgrade the manual way.
