OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi
(2013-01-21, 18:17)popcornmix Wrote: Can you dump edid with:
tvservice -d ~/edid.dat
and upload the file somewhere (e.g. dropbox).

Yep, dropbox link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13529545/edid.dat

Edit: Standard 24Hz videos still works correct by the way. Only videos with those 3d-tags in them that change to 50Hz.

- Memory cache set to 2621440 on default
- GUI resolution switch (taken from XBIAN)

Add to advencedsettings <guires>XXXX</guires>

XXXX = GUI resolution. 480p,720p,900p,1080p. <guires>720</guires>, <guires>1080</guires> etc...

Update Instruction:

http://openelec.tv/installation/updating

For Rpi 512Mb set gpu_mem=256, cachemembuffersize to 5242880 and change GUI to 1080p.

For Rpi 256Mb set gpu_mem=100, cachemembuffersize to 2621440 and change GUI to 900p.

or clean install:

When trying to upgrade from you previous custom build to this one (following the update instruction above), my RPi stopped on reboot on the Pi colour screen. I have my SYSTEM partition on SD and STORAGE on a USB pen.

When I connected the SD card in a Linux environment, I understood that my SYSTEM partition was corrupted. Strange, as this had never happened to me before...

Afterwards, I decided to follow the clean install procedure (so the SYSTEM partition was created from scratch), but I could only do it successfully after manually changing the file 'CREATE_SDCARD' attributes to be executable (after unpacking from ZIP file, it was not). After this, everything seems to be normal again...

Don't know if these 2 issues can be something in your distribution or somehow related to my installation, but still decided to let you know.

Strange. I had no problems with update and clean install. Everything work perfect.

My new custom build.

I have a 24p TV and normally XBMC adjust the display framerate to 24Hz if video has this frame rate.

It use to do this for 3D movies as well, but with the new nightly it changes to 50Hz instead.
Is this a bug or does this have a purpose?

Cheers popcorn, awesome support as always. Smile
i have one question. i would really like to try your custom builds, but i only have a windows environment. i usually took some pre-build image files
and uploaded them to my SD card with w32diskimager. how am i able to bring your test-images to my sdcard in my windows environment? any
help would be appreciated!

Run that image in RPi and follow the instructions here.

heya, I run Windows 7 - I just FTP the files across to the raspberry pi when it is connected to my home network. easier than swapping cards etc. I downloaded filezilla (free FTP client)

is it better to install this on an sd card? or can i also install it on a usb thumb drive? which one is faster/more stable? got a class 10 sd card...

1. Fix for incorrectly using clamped resolution when looking for framerate match
2. Fix non-square pixel display apect ratio and 3D TAB modes correctly
3. Fix for timestamp problems commonly seen with avi files.

Excellent. I'd be interested to hear any reports on this. XviD audio/video sync is the obvious thing to check.
I'd also be intested to hear from any composite video users (especially those using 16:9 displays and sdtv_aspect).

Does this "Fix non-square pixel display aspect ratio" apply to composite video users? I'm running (or planning to) a Pi on a composite 16:9 CRT in PAL mode, so I'm interested to know how these fixes might be relevant to me (I'm assuming from your request that they will be). Framerate match won't, as currently XBMC can't switch framerate/resolution in composite mode. Are either PAL (720x576) or NTSC (720x480) "non-square pixel display aspect ratio"?

I've had it already in a class 10 sd card and after changing to an USB thumb drive, I think I won't go back. This allowed me to overclock my 512 RPi, which used to instantly corrupt my STORAGE partition with ANY overclock settings (it no longer happens in the USB thumb drive which contains the STORAGE partition).

Please bare in mind that you will ALWAYS need an SD card to have the SYSTEM partition and to start the boot process, which is quickly handed to USB thumb drive.

Both PAL and NTSC have non-square pixels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_aspect_ratio)
For a 4:3 display PAL=1.09, NTSC=0.9
For a 16:9 display PAL=1.45, NTSC=1.21

The latest commit should handle those cases correctly.
Note: there is no way of the Pi knowing a composite display is 16:9, so it assumes it is 4:3, and you can override it with sdtv_aspect=3 in config.txt (http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt).

Ah I see, thanks. I just assumed that composite PAL and NTSC must have been working OK already and this fix was something more exotic Wink I hadn't noticed the problem but I've not done a lot of testing (on the 14" 4:3 CRT TV I have here) so I'll test it properly on a larger 16:9 TV when I get a chance.

and how do i properly install this, with SYSTEM on SD and the rest on the thumb drive? is there any tutorial? (preferrably for windows?)
and which options do you recommend to change as overclocking values?

You won't be able to do it only with Windows, as the USB thumb drive needs to be formatted in Ext4.

I followed the steps from here and after rebooting, partition STORAGE was installed in my USB thumb drive and I could delete the contents of the STORAGE partition in the SD card.
