For Rpi 512Mb set gpu_mem=256, cachemembuffersize to 5242880 and change GUI to 1080p.
For Rpi 256Mb set gpu_mem=100, cachemembuffersize to 2621440 and change GUI to 900p.

When trying to upgrade from you previous custom build to this one (following the update instruction above), my RPi stopped on reboot on the Pi colour screen. I have my SYSTEM partition on SD and STORAGE on a USB pen.
When I connected the SD card in a Linux environment, I understood that my SYSTEM partition was corrupted. Strange, as this had never happened to me before...
Afterwards, I decided to follow the clean install procedure (so the SYSTEM partition was created from scratch), but I could only do it successfully after manually changing the file 'CREATE_SDCARD' attributes to be executable (after unpacking from ZIP file, it was not). After this, everything seems to be normal again...
Don't know if these 2 issues can be something in your distribution or somehow related to my installation, but still decided to let you know.

I have a 24p TV and normally XBMC adjust the display framerate to 24Hz if video has this frame rate.
It use to do this for 3D movies as well, but with the new nightly it changes to 50Hz instead.
Is this a bug or does this have a purpose?

Excellent. I'd be interested to hear any reports on this. XviD audio/video sync is the obvious thing to check.
I'd also be intested to hear from any composite video users (especially those using 16:9 displays and sdtv_aspect).

For a 4:3 display PAL=1.09, NTSC=0.9
For a 16:9 display PAL=1.45, NTSC=1.21
The latest commit should handle those cases correctly.
Note: there is no way of the Pi knowing a composite display is 16:9, so it assumes it is 4:3, and you can override it with sdtv_aspect=3 in config.txt (http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt).
I hadn't noticed the problem but I've not done a lot of testing (on the 14" 4:3 CRT TV I have here) so I'll test it properly on a larger 16:9 TV when I get a chance.

and how do i properly install this, with SYSTEM on SD and the rest on the thumb drive? is there any tutorial? (preferrably for windows?)
and which options do you recommend to change as overclocking values?
