This would be a great way to implement dvd menus as fan art by converting them to gif.

In any event these were only offered as quick mock-ups. Here are a couple of screen shots of 'real' projects in the hope this eventually gets off the ground:

I think those look very cool. as a way to whet the appetite in the meantime, wouldnt it be possible to simply have these setup as video files, and then get xbmc to play the video in he background when xbmc opens.

i know its not the same, but it would give people an idea of what it would look like and maybe get a code ror two interested?

does anyone know how we can get a hold of the matrix (not sure if it IS the matrix but i mean the green one anyway) one for example as a video file?

Indeed those look pretty cool. But, those are very low resolution and very bad quality images and they are more than 1.5MB file size and already increased by 10% my Firefox memory usage. I like to see in action a high resolution (1920x1080) and high quality animated image in terms of file size and system resources. If we must to compromise in quality just for the cool animation, IMO is not worth it and i wouldn't do it. As for the posters IMO is absolutely useless.

Obviously if your computer can not run a high res gif without needing to worry about it capping out you have bigger problems and likely would oppose any "features" that do not fit on a floppy.

I mean seriously we are going to not even explorer a possible feature b/c some people can not use it or will not use the feature!? Or that some people will use the feature in a crappy way, I mean you could say this about anything.

Just downloaded the cirrus (v3) skin so that i could try this.

here is the instructions on background vids at startup; http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=119141

it looks great but mine gives me a blackout/blip for a fraction of a second everytime the video loops round to start again.

was this a known issue or is there something i missed that can sort it out?

Well, it's not really a bug, once the video restarts you'll see it ... what you can do is to edit your video file ( with a video editor, for ex. Windows Movie Maker ) adding a fade in and fade out ... that's what i've done and it works quite well, or you simply edit your video file to 24h Smile

@ZERO <ibis>
The current samples where almost 2MB each, in low res and crappy quality and (even those) they don't fit on a floppy. The Hi-Res ones how much do you think will be ?. My system is powerful enough (Quad Core with 8GB of ram) even for the Hi-Res ones but that's not the point. The point is to find the golden spot between new futures, quality and usability for the majority of the users and loading a 5MB+ image file every time that Home screen loads, IMHO is not accepted.

Girls

Lets back to the core of this thread. Cinemagraph, or animated posters.

As we view the few examples of Cinemagraph such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Pulp Fiction, inception, etc can't
we all agree it looks really awesome? No we can't but thats the beautiful parts, A watch shows the time but it can do
many other things today. People that don't want to doesn't have to but its always nice with new features, as cinemagraph -

First I want this question answered:
Why can't XBMC add picture supports for gifs?

Anyone?

Another thing.

If XBMC enables gif images we could start a really cool community with movie lovers dedicated
to put more "realism" by doing this amazing cinemagraph for our favorite movies.

This would certainly get the medias attention, and would probably make xbmc into a bigger community.

Now when we establised Cinemagraph would make XBMC even more popular here is some
tutorials on how to make this animated movie posters
