So far I haven't had luck with getting any audio out of it through the hdmi directly into the tv. What settings are you using? I haven't tried it on my home theater setup using passthough yet, but I probably wont bring it home from the office to try for another week or so. I'm using the Intel build. Haven't tried the generic yet.

Mine worked perfectly fine... that's strange. I didn't configure anything special with it. I have HDMI passthrough a AVR (Denon 1913)

I'm testing without passthrough currently. I have no doubt it probably works in passthrough, but down mixing to stereo hasn't worked yet. I was planning on using this in kiosk situations so having a DTS capable receiver probably wont be used in most cases.

Disappointing start. Sad Let us know how you make out.

I just ordered my Haswell i3 NUC today for hookup to my home theater system. Am hoping for flawless MKV / AC3 / DTS playback...

Maybe Installing Linux Mint + XBMC wasn't the best idea, OpenELEC would have been better due to the drivers including in it !

Going pretty cheap atm, Intel must have increased supply Nod
They only one left in stock so better be quick.

If your looking for just the i3, they are going even cheaper!!
Theres at least 6 here: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-BLKD34010WYB...00FG95W2G/

No one is really selling that part yet considering that it's $4000 and is not really available yet... but sure, for those who find the stock enclosure too noisy and are willing to give up the integrated IR, that might be a solution.

How do you fix the IR and S3/S6? I have problems with resume on OE on my Ivy Bridge i3 box. Have you found a way to fix it?

Well, I prefer to have a complete OS on my HTPC, I like to do other things than watch movies and listen to music with it.
I assume OE doesn't actually have any drivers that are not obtainable through other sources, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I'll probably install OE on a stick tonight and see if I get better results with that though.

Hello, fellow NUC people.

I am considering the Haswell i3 NUC, but I have one question:

Would a simple remote like this work with the newest NUC, using Windows 8? It comes with its own IR receiver dongle, but I would love to be able to use the built-in IR receiver.

Given its price (>$5) I have no pretenses about its quality, but using a tiny remote with directional keys (+ a little extra) for basic file and netflix playback (and probably a keyboard with trackpad when needed - youtube searching etc.) seems practical.

I have read through the thread without finding an answer, but I apologize if a similar question has been asked here before.

I skipped the idea of testing OE, couldn't be arsed. Instead I did what I usually do when I have audio problems on linux boxes; I uninstalled pulseaudio. Surround works perfectly fine with alsa, so I have to say that I'm very happy with my NUC now. Smile
The only issue I have now is that I wanted to test booting from USB, but the stick I have is horrible, so I've ordered an mSATA drive instead. Otherwise it's a great piece of hardware. Too bad about the lack of support for the built in IR receiver in linux though.

I actually had to reconfigure alsa to get sound working outside of XBMC, so for anyone having issues with alsa in the Haswell i3 NUC, put this in your .asoundrc:
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave {
pcm "plughw:0,3"
}
}

The ebay Auction says it works on 7, so there is a good Chance it will work on 8/8.1, but I'm pretty sure the builtin IR will work with Windows also.
I can't confirm actually because I need to wait one more week till my box arrives, but i'm going to install 8.1 on it and will update the Thread once I've done a couple of Tests Smile

So has anyone been able to get the internal IR to work in a linux OS or is it confirmed that it is a no go? I got my i3 and was happy to see that the it powered right up from my MCE remote right out of the box but is not listed in OE when I do the lsusb or in the devices.
