I came up with a slightly different animation for falling snow. This is if you really want a good amount of snow falling.
To make it work, do the same things as for MassIV's.

Also looks good!!! Here's a screenshot of your idea while I was testing it.

This looks fantastic, nicely understated but really effective! Thanks very much!

BUT! Where exactly do I place that line? "Line 6" still leaves the Snow machine visible, so I must have it in the wrong place I think?

Cheers and thanks again!

You need to replace line 6 from this

With the line you quoted. Look closely at the first 4 characters of that line, i changed more then just the date.

Very nice! This would be cool if you could tie it to the actual weather, so when its snowing outside (ie the XBMC weather says snowing) then it snows on the menu screen Smile
Thanks for sharing.

Love the snow machine effect...brilliant. I am a little disappointed with the background image that's being used with it in many of the screenshots and in CCM. Aesthetically it's fine but the resolution ain't the best. I collected a large number of premium holiday backgrounds from Webshots when they were still in business. They're high quality and although there's a lot of white in some of them I'm thinking they'll look better than the current one?

You can download a zip of them here (8mb):

@MassIV
I ported your work to skin Aeon MQ5 and works flawless there.

Someone wanted it for skin Amber also so i did the same trick but for some reason it doesn't go below the navigation bar, it just stops just above it (2/3 screen top to bottom)
Only difference in this skin is that it's 1080i instead of the 720p MQ5 is based on.

Any suggestions?

1080i version: Adjusted image sizes, fall speeds, screen width, screen height.

Thanks MassIV, it looks awesome Wink

Edit:
FYI, i ported it to
- Skin Aeon MQ5
- Skin Amber

It's not my intention to steal your work!

I like the idea of this and gave it a shot in Aeon Nox but failedSad
I added the 1080i file at the end of home.xml and added the snow.png file to media. I still see the same backgrounds though. Have I missed something somewhere else?

That's my fault. Please remove line 3. That's something that came from my own skin.
Code:
<visible>Skin.HasSetting(HolidayEffects)</visible>
I'll update the links.

Worked that time. Thanks. Curious about 1 thing though.

Code:
<!--visible>System.Date(12-01,12-31)</visible><!---(start date, end date, in MM-DD format)--->
Does this need to be un-commented? Something like

Code:
<visible>System.Date(12-01,12-31)</visible>
ASUS Chromebox M004U (LibreELEC 8.2/Aeon Nox SiLVO)--->HDMI--->Onkyo TX-NR646--->HDMI--->Panasonic P65VT30

Only IF you want to control the visibility by date Smile

Is there anyway I could use this to change the background art as well as adding the snowflakes? I realize I can manually set the background, but I like the way this is activated for specific dates and was hoping there might be some way I could specify a folder of background art or something similar.

You could certainly. But, assuming you are still talking about Nox, i'm not sure how simple it would be to integrate withing the current exceptions.
It would depend on what type of background setting you normally use on home, like Live Cases ect. Which already override the normal backgrounds i assume. And if you still want to see fanart from widgets ect ect. If you are lucky you can just add a value to a variable, but i doubt it.

Either way, i am not familiar enough with the code of Nox, so you have to ask someone else.
