[AirPlay][Warning] Don't update to iOS8 if you want AirPlay
(2014-11-27, 11:31)Memphiz Wrote: That behavior is the same on atv2 - this is something ios8 has changed afaik.

The resolution limiting too? The pause thing I guess I could live with but I gotta draw the line at permanent 360p!

The resolution sent is up to the app on the iOS device. I see higher resolutions than this when I use Airplay.
Kodi 18.3 - Mid 2007 Mac Mini, 4GB, 2TB HD, Windows 7 SP1
Kodi 18.3 - Vero4k, Raspberry Pi 2. OSMC.

1080p videos from my iPhone's camera play fine at 1080p on Kodi. I've tried a third party app (Jasmine) for Youtube that allows me to set resolution, and it still comes out as 360p on Kodi. And as far as I can tell there are no quality settings when browsing with Safari, and again 360p. How do you go about it?

debug log (wiki) - i only ment the pausing thingy. How the resolution is set depends on the url format which is sent to xbmc

Just noticed in addition to the 360p limit and pausing, that airplay here is a little flaky in general, in every app/browser I will sometimes just get a black loading screen until I go into settings and disable/re-enable airplay; after which point I will select Kodi again in iOS and it will work fine again for a while. Playing through Safari iOS in this log: http://pastebin.com/3Zy8kYMp

I have just tried an app "FREEdi Player", which does appear to send in HD, and does not pause either. I would really like to get it working in the browser/Jasmine though.

Out of curiosity, what protocol would an airplay stream be? ie what would protocol in playercorefactory be if I wanted them played externally?

not possible. They are normally some random http urls...

In this log, first airplay was with Jasmine (it has resolution settings, but results in 360p just like through Safari), and the second was Freedi Player, same video (also with HD enabled): http://pastebin.com/U63HDBFD

First results in 360p and pauses upon starting playback, second results in 720p, does not pause till I back out of the video on my iPhone, at which point I can hit play in Kodi to continue. iOS 8.1.1 on iPhone 5s.

URLS for each source, all the same video:

edit by memphiz: moved the shit to pastebin because it cluttered the whole thread...

That debug log (wiki) is useless because you had disabled debug. The link mentiones how to do it properly (by enabling debugging in system->system->debugging) ...

I formatted those 3 urls - see:

http://pastebin.com/vruVJUkL
http://pastebin.com/sGTbtSQg
http://pastebin.com/MbDBipdV

Not sure if you copied them from the same place but the 3rd one has a missing urlencoding (%2C is written as , directly which is wrong for url encoded URLs). Another difference is that the sparams field needs to list all other fields - this is not the case for the 3rd url aswell.

Beside that there is not much different. Finally this is an issue in the youtube addon and its unrelated to airplay (when the url is handed over to the kodi player / youtube addon airplay is already done).

The fact that some movies pause or autostart is totally a client issue as this is controlled by rate and play commands which we just handle like it has to be handled (at least how the reverse engineering airplay protocol document tells us).

Long story short - not my area...

Hello Memphiz,

would you be so kind to describe generally the problem with Apps and Airplay, please.
I would like to open a ticket to amazon for the instant Video App but I'm not deep enough in this topic to describe the problem with playing videos out of an App.

If it is possible to describe it generally I will use this description to open a communication to Amazon.

Thank you very much.

Regards
Michael

Ehrrm - no ...

Read that article - search for DRM - don't even think about contacting amazon about it ...

For some reason AirPlay doesn't work at all for me on Ubuntu.
My MacBook is no problem, Fire TV is fine too but my iOS 8 / Yosemite devices don't see Kodi on Ubuntu. My old iPod Touch with iOS 6 is working.

Log: http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=365269

EDIT: I don't know if it's important, but I can't connect to port 9090 (Connection refused). Netstat says Kodi is using the port.

CZeroconfAvahi::addService() named: [email protected]kodi (ZBOX-ID41) type: _raop._tcp port:36666

This means your mac address is either broken which might be the issue hiere ... the 00000 should be your mac adress ...

Ok, I see. Seems like OpenVPN's tun0 adapter was the problem. After reconfiguring OpenVPN to use tap it's finally working. Smile

Hello Memphiz,

I'm only interested in the Airplay function.

The only idea is to use my ipad with the Amazon App to view instant video over airplay with kodi on my TV.
I see no problems with DRM for this.

Therefore I ask for the problem in iTunes (ipad/iphone) Apps for using Airplay with Kodi.

Michael

Why don't you see DRM issues with that? You will never get a Amazon App VOD stream to be transfered unencrypted over the air to kodi. So yes - this is exactly the DRM issue - it will never work with any Open Source AirPlay server.
