Release service.subtitles.subdivx -- Spanish subtitles from Subdivx.com
#1
(English translation below)

This add-on got revived in March 2014 (version 0.0.1) by porting existing code to the new XBMC 13 API (version 0.0.1) and since then it has been maintained more or less in working state.

Currently published versión: 0.0.4
Version pending publishing, already tagged in source code repository: 0.0.5

Work has been done in the following areas:

* General bug fixing
* Better code structure, mode idiomatic code, taking advantage of Python features
* More robstness in subdivx.com pages content parsing stage
* More robstness in decompression of RAR files as it's popular on subdivx.com

Versión 0.0.5 includes a change worth some notes:

As subdivx.com is a website dedicated exclusively to Spanish subtitles, there are two columns in the search results popup windows which are redudant: The one with the Spanish flag and the 'Español' language label one.

What has been done is adding an add-on configuration value (the first one) which allows you to replace the fixed 'Español' cell in every subtitle with the nick of the subdivx.com member that uploaded it.

This allows you to know what to expect in terms of subtitle quality. Reason fot this is the fact that there isn't a need to be a subdivx.com member for long before one learns to recognize users renowned by the quality of the subtitle authoring/retouching work they do.

Plans for version 0.0.6 include also removing the Spanish flag column and the ability to get XBMC/Kodi subtitles rating (0 to 5 starts) from the rating given by subdivx.com subtitle downloaders in addition to getting it from the number of dowloads as currently happens.

We'd need some information:

* Version of XBMC/Kodi
* Version of the addon
* A debug log of a simple XBMC/Kodi execution i.e. start it and going immediately to try a failed subtitle download. Instructions are the standard ones: http://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file/Easy

I don't know but we should be handling both cases correctly since version 0.0.4 because I took care of this three months ago: https://github.com/ramiro/service.subtit...c5c6a7c021

If you are having dificulties downloading subtitles I suspect there is another problem.

No need to do that. See above.

Any help implementing that is welcome.

Hola Cramm!

I've been using your addon for a while so I really appreciate your work. That's why I decided to register on this place and report an issue and my thoughts on it.

Basically on XBMC 13.2 I was -sometimes- getting a script error when searching for subtitles or when downloading them. Usually I would switch to another subtitle service and go on with my life, but today I was less lazy than usual so I read the logs and figured out that the script was actually raising an unicode exception.

This is happening in at least two places of the code:
  • line 207 within append_subtitles(), it seems that the content of item['filename'] cannot be encoded properly
  • line 257 within _wait_for_extract()

I was able to reproduce the first one also on Kodi, but encoding to utf-8 the content of item['filename'] before urlencoding it seemed to be enough to fix it. I don't know about the second one though, unicode is usually a nightmare for me when I code on Python Rolleyes

Code:
File "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\service.subtitles.subdivx\service.py", line 299, in _handle_compressed_subs
                                                x = _wait_for_extract(workdir, filecount, base_mtime, MAX_UNZIP_WAIT)
                                              File "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\service.subtitles.subdivx\service.py", line 257, in _wait_for_extract
                                                fname = fname.decode('utf-8')
                                              File "C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\system\python\Lib\encodings\utf_8.py", line 16, in decode
                                                return codecs.utf_8_decode(input, errors, True)
                                            UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xf1' in position 42: ordinal not in range(128)
                                            -->End of Python script error report<--
23:16:22 T:2660   ERROR: XFILE::CDirectory::GetDirectory - Error getting plugin://service.subtitles.subdivx/?action=download&filename=D%3a%5cMedia%5cTV%5cThe%20Walking%20Dead%5cS5%5cThe.Walking.Dead.S05E11.720p.HDTV.x264-IMMERSE.mkv&id=X6XNDE5MTQ2X-the-walking-dead-s05e11

Could you make it work with manual search string input? It seems to ignore it and keep using the file name search. Also, if playing an .STRM file that is in the library, it uses the filename from the file linked to in the strm, ignoring all library metadata.

I'm on win 7, kodi 14.1.

This is fixes in the soon to be released version 0.0,7. Expect Kodi updating it in the next few days.

I'm interested in this.

Didn't know of the existence of these .strm files. Learning by reading http://kodi.wiki/view/Internet_video_and_audio_streams

Could you describe your scenario in more detail please?

Aren't these files supposed to containf URLs to resources streamable through the network?

Why do you talk about a file being the one pointed by the strm file?

In your case that strm file is already added to the Library, but how is the media meta-data provided? by Kodi (via the plugins like The Movie DB, etc.) o by NFO files?

First, thanks for your kind words.

I've seen failures in that line but problems were with the id/subdivx_id variable and tried to fix it in the just released v0.0.7. It'd great if you could post a traceback just like you did with the second issue, or maybe the name of the movie/serie episode so I can try to reproduce the scenario.

I will try to reproduce this one.

Well, I've used PseudoLibrary to generate some .STRMs from Video Addons, e.g.: Crackler. An strm file for Crackler contains the addon url for the movie (something like plugin://plugin.video.crackler/?mode=play_video&v_id=SOME-NUMBER-HERE).

Once you have the STRMs, you add the folder to the library and let it scan for metadata on some metadata scrapper like the universal movie scrapper.

Now, that url i mentioned before, eventually, resolves to an actual url with a file name, and that's what it seems to be using instead of the metadata (the filename appears in yellow text above the playing controls).
If i just go to the Crackler addon and select the movie from there, then it picks up the movie name.

But to be fair, I don't think any of the other subtitle services pick up the library metadata either yet TongueTongue

I hope that sorta clears it up.

Thanks for the manual search!! I've just tryed it out Wink

Hi, I'm having a problem downloading a subtitle (particularly, manual search string for "mad men s07e12". I believe its the unicode exception mentioned previously. Here's the log:

(note: I changed some paths cause I didn't want to show my folder structure, but where a ~ appears in the quoted code it showed the path to my home, and in the GetDirectory error the path to where the file (mad.men.712.hdtv-lol.mp4) is).

If there's any other thing I can do to help just tell me. Great plugin!

Hello all,

is it possible that subdivx site changed again causing addon to fail? All of a sudden I'm getting "error en el script" for every movie (get subtitles list just ok, error message comes up when trying to download one). Tried a re-install of the addon with no luck.

Thanks!
