I have just installed Kodi 14.1 RC on my computer with Ubuntu LTS Server 32-Bit with ldm desktop manager and lxde desktop.
I am having a problem with Kodi not picking up my Logitech K400r Keyboard.
System specs:
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz 32-Bit
768MB RAM
nVidia 6200 AGP Card
2 x 1TB HDDs
ASUS Xonar Sound Card
The touchpad is working but the keyboard part refuses to play ball. It works in LXDE and the ldm desktop manager but when I log into a Kodi
session it does not work.
I have tried disabling joystick and gamepad inputs and it does nothing
Can someone please help me?
Thanks in advance.

I found the culprit! it was the desktop manager that is used in the lxde package lxdm on the Ubuntu repository.
I used the lubuntu-desktop package that uses lightdm (the same desktop manager as unity) and my keyboard works again.
The problem is I can't figure out why the Lightdm desktop manager works and the lxdm doesn't.

Same problem here on Arch Linux. Lxdm + Kodi Session = Keyboard not working. Did you find a solution?

You're right, LightDM works. But I don't like this solution, because I use some very specific features of Lxdm that no other display manager offers. I will sacrifice this day to try to hunt down the source of this problem. I will post here if I find any solution.

Okay, I give up. The logfiles of Kodi and Xorg are exactly the same when using Lxdm or LightDM. I cannot find a clue why the keyboard won't work in Lxdm.

I can't figure out why Kodi as a desktop session doesn't like the Logitech k400r with the lxdm desktop manager either.
There must be a reason for it.

I just noticed that the keyboard works when Lxdm is configured to autologin into the kodi session. So Lxdm probably does something bad when showing the login GUI.

So how do you install lightdm when the keyboard doesn't work?

The easiest temporary fix is to use a wired keyboard and install lightdm or do so via SSH from another computer
(if you have SSH installed on your media centre).
When I had this problem, the touchpad still worked on my keyboard (the mouse part).
Exit Kodi with the mouse which will take you back to the GUI login. The keyboard should work again.
Then access a virtual terminal with the key combination:
CTRL+ALT+F2
to access the terminal so you can install lightdm.
To avoid installing unity (which is a dependency for lightdm, I don't know why), install a desktop environment
that uses lightdm but not unity. I used the lubuntu desktop environment instead. I am sure there are others,
but this one worked for me.
