Vero OSMC
(2015-05-16, 13:22)fritsch Wrote: Nope. It has not, one can use IMX_DOUBLE, but for this the vero is too slow. i4 cubox can do that "most of the time", for 576i it works without issues. Alone the 50fps rendering is a challenge for imx hardware.

Edit: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/vero-performance/2415 <- here is what user have reported.

Just to point out, that thread has "mysteriously" been locked / deleted again, with a bit of a sly dig from one of the ruder moderators at zaphod24. Sure it's no reflection on Sam, other than his choice of mods!
Yep. They said they'd correct the spam filter again (https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/thread-deleted/4037/14). At this point perhaps a "Vero owner" should just open an RC3 performance thread so that the discussion and hopefully improvements can continue.

What would give you any indication that development is not ongoing? And what is your point?? You don't own a Vero!

Who is stopping them?! If Vero performance were an issue to it's users, why aren't there throngs of vero owners with threads seeking resolution to their issues?!

EDIT: But thanks for continuing to bump this thread. It's visibility continues to bring users to Vero and OSMC Wink
It sounds like we've got an expert on the Vero, so perhaps ActionA can detail precisely how the Vero is different from the Cubox-i2 that I do own (other than the difference in price and the included remote control).

I followed the instructions at http://forum.solid-run.com/kodi-xbmc-pla...t2442.html and installed OSMC RC2 on my Cubox-i2. I haven't bothered with RC3 yet as I was waiting to hear feedback from Vero owners (and perhaps others that followed the same instructions to install on Cubox devices) regarding how playback of the videos at http://solidrun.maltegrosse.de/~fritsch/ is working.
Yep. Considering the relatively low level of Vero support activity on the OSMC forum vs. the rpi, and not at all (beyond this thread) on our forum, it must be a hell of a good device Wink

Anyway, keep the OSMC forum bickering on the OSMC forum, please...

[EDIT] @zaphod24 There seem to be an imx6 (non-vero) sub-forum @OSMC, btw. Might be more appropriate for your questions...
Oooh! There is. Thanks for that update!

I'd still like an answer to my question about the Vero hardware vs. a Cubox-i2 as I'm really getting tired of being told I don't own a Vero so I must not know what I'm talking about regarding performance. The only difference to me appears to be that I didn't pay a lot more for my device so that it would have 3 years of guaranteed updates and support.
It has been said numerous times here that there is not a single hardware difference between the Vero and a solid-run Cubox i2 + wifi-bluetooth option (street price: $99): http://www.solid-run.com/product/cubox-i2/

There was this thing about gigabit ethernet, but we learned that it was an artificial limitation, and now the I2 is listed as gigabit as well, apparently.
My I2 never had an issue with gig ethernet and I just have switches and not "smart" routers so I never had a problem with the pause frames not working. In the end, I decided to limit the ethernet to 100meg because my content didn't need gigabit and it keeps the idle temperature several degrees cooler.
This is the Vero in black

BTW, the Vero is a business, so it makes perfect business sense to not provide an OSMC images for non-Vero IMX'es (there *really* would be no point to buy it, then).

OTOH, OSMC plays fair game and all sources are available. If someone with some knowledge would care enough, it would be trivial to build an OSMC image for whatever Cubox'es...
On the osmc.tv site it says that eventually they will release an image for generic imx6 devices. I get focusing on the device that some were willing to pay $200 for. Those folks should, after all, get first priority. I'm not sure why they couldn't put a generic imx6 image out there from the start, but... It guess it may have become time consuming if generic imx6 users started having a lot of issues and asking questions.

As it stands, there are easy to follow instructions in the Kodi/XBMC SolidRun forums for loading OSMC onto a Cubox-i or Hummingboard. I followed them and was able to get OSMC working just fine on my i2. It pretty much worked like every other Kodi distro I've tried on my i2 (geexbox, openelec, arch, xbian) except with a new snazzy theme. Most content played ok but my 1080i60 live TV content and some of the test videos from fritsch had some skipping or dropped frames.

And yes, this has been said several times in this thread but... I want someone associated with the Vero and OSMC to actually make that statement. I'm tired of being told I don't know what I'm talking about because I *ONLY* have a Cubox-i2.
Calm down. Why should they do so - it's their project, their box. It's a business ... no one will tell you: yes, you buy a white i2 for double the price ...

And yeah - I can 100% assure you. Your cubox-i2 is exactly the same performance, nothing worse, but sadly also nothing better :-)
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
Thanks fritsch! Considering all you've done for imx6 I'll take your word for it, there is no difference between the Vero and my i2 other than the snazzy remote they provide.

Don't forget several years of software support! Wink
