New HiMedia Q5
(2015-05-29, 16:14)hdmkv Wrote: Need to explain to HiMedia very simply, so basically you're asking they support 44.1, 96 and 192 kHz stereo (2.0) files (mp3, FLAC, etc.) at the same frequencies as source and not resample all to 48 kHz right? And that for 5.1 audio, Q5/10 already does 96 khz at 96 khz? I can ask if they can't support 192 kHz natively, they should at least do 96 for 2.0 and 5.1 audio.
just do it

Had not noticed that thread; thanks looun. Glad HiMedia is working on it, but whenever I read something like "waiting on chip manufacturer", hope dims some.

some people have occasionally audio drop outs.
I have same audio drop outs with film ,no with TV serie, but i always do streaming for NAS so i ma not sure is a bug.

Thanks for the visual confirmations looun. My BenQ W1070 displays "24Hz" whether it's getting 24.000 or 23.976. HiMedia just needs to focus on squashing bugs now (3D ISO's playing at 720p, VC-1 23.976 playback improvement and 29.970 fix, and the other things we've asked their engineers).

The 3d iso playback at 720p is a huge one though

Yes. Just e-mailed them again today, requesting they focus on fixing bugs I noted.

I just bought this but now Im wondering if I should return and get Shield TV. Its £70 more and have to wait for real 24p playback but it is faster hardware and can do 4k @ 60.
What do you guys think? Is it better to stick with Q5 as Shield has Android TV which has its issues?

If you need/want 3D, HD audio and 23.976 all in one box, Q5 is it. If you want something with better 4K and gaming, then Shield. But, for proper framerates and HD audio support, it'll take a while I think for nVidia to support. And, 3D, a longshot.

So you think 4k playback of 24fps content is better on shield?
Does Q5 not play back 4k smoothly?

To be perfectly clear, this is only true if you want/need Android as well. I don't know why anyone would put up with this horrific box otherwise. Anyone who cares about high quality video and audio should not buy an Android box, no matter how close this thing gets.

Popcorn hour A-400 VS HiMedia Player Q5 4K3D = Q5 win

Q5 si not perfect, but it's good compromise between Full 3d/ Audio HD /Kodi/ 23,976/ picture quality and price. there is another box can do this with 140€, especial in europe?

Well I guess budget needs to come into consideration also.
To get a 4k NUC its three times the price after adding RAM and HD.
