HP 260 G1 [Haswell Celeron 2957U]
+1 on the Anti Virus
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

The ebay seller is hong kong based, I suspect the cable may first be shipped from there and subsequently posted from the UK. I have had this happen a few times which way I prefer to use aliexpress.

That may be the case, they seem to be pretty quick looking at the delivery times from the feedback they have had, I will just have to wait and see.

MediaPi here, I've decided I'm spending to much time on the internet so trying to detach myself.
BUT

I found some information regarding the cable that I'm posting that I think users will be interested in

The HP 260 G1 is the almost the exact same as the HP stream mini. One tailored for the buisness market and the other consumer.
Googling around I found the same cable in aliexpress here
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/wholesale...60000.html

have a look at second comment by Y***g J
Quote:thx, delivery fast!! And It is compatible cable for HP stream mini.

whats even more interesting is this article

http://www.atxgeek.me/2015/05/dell-inspi...rdown.html

This article is looking at the a unit dell released to compete with the hp mini stream. Seems like OEM's are withholding sata cables, so its not just HP. Whats weird in this unit that the hp envy sata cable "has the exact measurements as the Dell Interposer". so a user by the name of tornado4u2 (check comments section) brought one. and guess what it actually worked LOL. not even the same manufacturer and it worked.

Quote:Ladies & Gentlemen,

"habemus cable.....lol", after my humongous disappointment with Dell Technical Support I decided to follow my instinct on the cable issue since it was obvious I was on my own.
And true to itself, i discover a way not to work (failed miserably) with my first intent, the Adamo cable was a no go, no joy!; But my second try did function, with just a "minor manual adjustment" to the ribbon cable. I am talking about the:

HP Envy 17 J Series 1st Hard Drive HDD SATA Cable Adapter 6017B0421501

which I found on Ebay for $14.95 S&H included and ......."It's Alive" it did work!
Now for the small modification you are going to need, a scissor to cut the two little plastic tabs at the Envy 17 ribbon cable end to the main board, you can't miss it, just two simple straight line cuts in order to have the ribbon cable fit properly and deep inside the ribbon SATA holder on the 3050 board and Voila! make sure to pull the little white holder outward with your fingernails or a little screwdriver, it's very easy.

I used a 500gb SATA disk from my old HP2000 laptop with Win 8 on the disk and the 3050 system add it without major manipulation from user. Unlike the memory upgrade.
Please check this photos for confirmation by Bios and win 8 from 3050 OS.

He follows up with "The SATA is working flawlessly"

By deduction the connector is not HP's propriety IP technology but seems like something that OEM's together made and use, HP and Dell among the two. Also since the sata cable worked on something that looked like it might work suggest that there is one connector like this and one sata cable, suggesting that the sata cable should work.

So two machines HP Stream mini which is the same unit as the HP 260 G1 and the Dell unit have both been confirmed to work with this sata cable!

also note tornado4u2 details his modification to the ribbon cable to cut to the size you want (if you ant to)

best thing is its half the price
£6.45
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-...06662.html

(note this is the cheapest and no comments have been posted, although the seller has some good rating, but the fact is this vendor
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/wholesale...60000.html
has good ratings and comments, so you make the choice, cheapest or this @£9.09)

type in "6017B0421501" in aliexpress to get all the vendors that do this cable and choose by price

and if you rather buy of ebay look here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-For-HP-Envy-...4630949aa4
£8.37

our cable worries should be no more Big Grin thanks to Speighty for taking the punt and to mtx512

the modification he's talking about is to get the cable to fit, and not to shorten the ribbon as I assumed, so no modification would not be necessary, (he cut the two small flaps on the sides, we don't need to do that) since the thing that attaches to the hardware looks exactly the same for our unit, u'll just have to fold the ribbon

Thats interesting

you can power a 2.5 inch sata hardrive with usb port but you can't with a 3.5 inch drive
I assumed that the cable will only power a 2.5 inch drive but have a look

Image

it's a 3.5 inch hardrive. do you think the cable can send enough power to the hardrive? The HP 260 G1 comes with a big 65 watt adaptor and the HP itself uses less than 10 watt so should have more than enough juice left over!

wonder if you take the plastic caddy out and able to fit in a 3.5 inch hardrive, it has enough head space.
so do you think the cable is able to power a 3.5 inch hardrive without any other power source?

Thanks for the info, now to decide whether to cancel my lambdatek order as I have no faith that they will deliver.

I definitely feel more confident that the cable will fit now.

From what I can recall when I opened my case a 3.5" drive wont fit in, there was just enough space for the 2.5".

I seriously believe lambdatek is just the middle man and ordering it fresh from HP, like we are doing.

Even if a 3.5 inch hardrive won't fit inisde the case, it'll be good to know if a 3.5 inch hardrive can be powered using this cable. let users modify the case in the future. 3.5 inch hardrives are quite abit cheaper than 2.5 inch. but they are noiser!
Hoping it works out with you Speighty, with this cable, your our hope lol

That's true, it would be cool if the cable could power a 3.5" drive.

Fingers crossed the cable doesn't take too long to come

this video shows how to connect the cable, using one of those connectors and a sata cable
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx3dMGXrGCc#t=3m50s

also notice that the the cable is designed for the HP ENVY (in video) and the connector on that is the EXACT same as the connector on the HP 260 G1, things are looking very good for this substitute connector, it'll take two weeks for these cables to arrive from china

The sata cable is a 10 pin zif to sata adapter which seem to be used on the HP Envy 15/17 laptops, so you can google for DW17 or DW15 + "hp cable". Some part numbers are 6017B0416801, 6017B0421501, 6017B0421601. This one seems to be 5cm.

good find mtx512! it won't make much difference if a cable is bigger right? speed wise? just order the cheapest and fold the ribbon, though I feel like some rather have a smaller ribbon and pay a premeium for it (it costs £9.69 , with good ratings and user comments). I rather buy the cheapest and save the money for other upgrades, like wifi etc

mtx512 will you buying one then?
no ones mentioned it, but the ebuyer have dropped their prices and people at hotukdeals are posting deals of between £79 - £83
good deals

These seem like the perfect size for the HP 260 G1, if you don't like folding the ribbon (if you don't mind you can get them cheaper)

the first one has less orders but really high rating (cheapest)

If users go for any of these, please indicate which one, so it'll help others

Great news on the cable. I said previously that there must be something else that fits. Just in time too as I added an office key I have from a cheapo windows tablet and the install took the free disk space down to less than 3GB. Maybe I should have only installed what I needed but I took the standard install and disk space was gobbled up.
I will order one of the £8.37 ones on ebay and add a standard size SSD that I already have, almost went for a bigger M.2 drive but as I say I already have the SSD so using that make sense.

It's looking good for the cable, but I woudn't order one till its confirmed to work with this unit, it shoudn't take long I bet, Speighty should have the news shortly, but wait until then is my advice
