HP 260 G1 [Haswell Celeron 2957U]
Very true, should have realised that.
Reply
Just to say I've now successfully installed windows 10 onto my HP 260 G1.
Yesterday I had gone onto the Microsoft site https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software.../windows10 and downloaded the Win 10 installation. It was unsuccesful and, as I posted earlier in this thread, I ended up with a PC that barely worked. I spent several hours trying to re-install windows 8 and discovered that I couldn't create a bootable USB to do this. Apparently this is because the versioin of Windows 8 on the HP 260 is Windows 8 with Bing and the ISO for this hasn't been released.
Before finally giving up I went back onto the Microsoft Win 10 download site and tried to re-install Windows 10. This time, for some reason, it was successful.
I just need to sort out a few things, for some reason Kodi doesn't like the new OS I'm getting an error message "sqlite3.dll not loading" which I see has been reported previously with Kodi running on Windows. Nonetheless I now seem to have a functioning PC which is a relief. I'll try an earlier version of Kodi and see if that works.

Quote:Thanks for the tip regarding the cable. I bought one from Ebay on 26th July, and it arrived this morning, 31st July, from Hong Kong. Can't grumble at that. Not tried it yet. Still need to check out the best option for the mounting screws and washers.

All I did was follow the instructions on the site the program will ask you to connect an external drive & I just used a spare usb stick. I wasn't asked for a windows key the installation program automatically recognises an authorised installation of Windows 8. I discovered that it's easy to find the Windows key. I downloaded a program called Produkey but there are a number of other free utilities that do this. I will be creating a recovery USB stick now and may need the product key if I ever have to re install Win 10. I haven't checked to see if Win 10 uses Wimboot but I guess not as the Win 10 installation is a standard one.

By the way I solved my "squlite2.dll missing" problem, as detailed in other posts when installing Kodi don't untick any of the optional download boxes. It's working perfectly now.

AIUI Wimboot-techniques are now used in mainstream Windows 10 (possibly only on SSD/Flash installs?) so there is less of a separation, so the Windows 10 install may well use Wimboot-style compression. The above technique is effectively doing a full-install rather than an in-place upgrade I think, which should be easier.

With regard to updating to Windows 10 I would advise anyone to create a recovery disk/USB first (it was a quite simple and painless task to do a fresh install of 8.1 with Bing on my new SSD using the recovery USB I made the other day).
I've also read in several places that you need to first choose to upgrade to 10 then your 8.1 key will be converted to a 10 key, after that you can do a fresh install of 10 if you wish and your new key will be recognised.
That being said I've run into no issues on my Surface 3 which has just been upgraded rather than having a fresh install, sticking to the "if it aint broke don't fix it" mantra I'm going to leave it as is rather than going through the rigmarole of a fresh installation, hard drive space aside this may be good policy for the G1.

How exactly do you make a recovery image.?

I don't know why I didn't check before
The substitute cables are to long, and we found that there is the 5cm cables that match the size of ours

The code for then is 6017B0416801
Type that in eBay (I use American eBay since the Chinese seekers are targeting that site more than the UK)

http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?isRefine=tr...ue&_sop=15

Sort by lowest price

And you got cable like this
http://m.ebay.com/itm/HP-ENVY-15-J-Serie...nav=SEARCH

£5.36 bargain and no need to fold cable
Plus £4.44 for screw's
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2059382

And you got everything to add a hardrive for under a tenner! :D
Cool right

EDIT I swear on my phone it said free postage, oh well this cable isn't as appealing with the price tag now, thanks methanoid for pointing it out :)
but you can still get the smaller cables by typing 6017B0416801
like here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDD-Flex-Cable-H...25a9808727

but its not really worth it since the bigger cables are cheaper

In the search box on the charms bar type recovery, you'll then get an option to create a recovery drive

I have successfully upgraded from windows 8.1 with bing to windows 10, I have not had to do a fresh install.

No errors at all regarding the wimboot install.

I used the guide I posted earlier and download the x64 iso.

No problems at all.

Before upgrading to windows 10 I only had 5gb free, after the upgrade I have nearly 10gb free.

Yep. I'm getting HD Audio into an Onkyo NR616 AVR. I'm using the EGL test builds from the Linux support thread.

What audio device have you selected?

I stuck on the most stable release and still no HD sound options.

It defaults to HDMI 0 - Denon (which is the make of my amp)
If I change the audio to the other 2 choices, HDMI1, 2, then I can see the options yet no sound comes out.

Any chance you can link to the exact build you are using.

Is posting a Debug Log really that hard? So that you prefer whining? I asked for the log > 2 days ago.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
