Kodi Media Player Options with 3D MVC & HD Audio

Reason for this format is that they play directly on my Samsung tv, whilst they don't play in 3D in an mkv container for some reason. I'm interested in getting a raspberry pi to use with other tv, can it play 3D frame packed mvc from m2ts or does it need to be repackaged into an mkv container? Thanks!

If you can provide a sample file in m2ts format I can check if it plays on the Pi.

Thank you! What's the best way of getting a sample to you?

I've used makemkv to get mvc mkv in the past, but i would like to rip the entire disc.

There's actually a copy entire disc option in make mkv as well :-)

Yea I know, but I thought I read here somewhere that mkv removes some 3d file when ripping the whole disc.

Don't think so, it should do the whole structure so the second biggest m2ts file in the stream folder will be the mvc track. Not done a whole disc for a while though so could be wrong!
Bd to avchd is another useful tool for backing up and keeping folder structure. Can also compress files if you want

You can't rip whole disc to MKV, only the movie. When you scan a 3D disc with MakeMKV, the 'MVC' track is deselected by default under video (don't ask why). Just make sure to select it, then click 'Make MKV'. Here's a screenshot showing this.

I'm made some 3d mkv rips by adding the mvc tab, thats not my issue.

I would like to create iso or complete copy of my 3d blurays, as I hope to get the zidoo x6 to replace my pi2.

Don't think zidoo x6 will play back mvc 3dHuh?

Probably not. Your best bet then is to do a full disc rip to ISO using AnyDVD HD.

there is some difference, if you lost metadate you lost some function:
Dolby Dynamic Range Control (DRC)
DTS drc scale control
DTS Voice Clarification

and with DTS-HD 7.1 you lost virtual back surround:

try 2013 DTS Blu-Ray Demo Disc Vol.17:
- Dredd – DTS Sound Check DTS-HD MA 7.1
- The Hunger Games – DTS Sound Check DTS-HD MA 7.1

Try With 5.1 setup speaker and player support DTS-HD:test kodi decoding then with passthrough enabled to the receiver, there are big difference.
You lose virtual back surround speakers and DTS / Ampi DSP optimization.

Try passthrough DTS Sound Check DTS-HD MA 7.1 into 5.1 ampi setup( no upmix , no audyssey DSX, no prologic ) ... your surprise :-)

Yep - the loss of metadata is the main downside of player decode rather than AVR decode. For many users this will be moot - but as you say, for some it is significant. However for many, player lossless decode will be very welcome, and few other devices achieve this (along with 3D MVC and Frame Packed 1080p output, decent 23.976, refresh rate switching, deinterlacing etc.) - let alone achieve it at the price point the PI 2 does.

My question is, what is criteria or the necessary features that a device need to a get A+
I think we should set a standard so there wouldn't be no preferences.

Hi,

In summary, the Pi2 can play 1080p mkv, ISO 2D and 3D perfectly. With a great image. If you use AV, 0 audio problems.

Himedia Q5 has same image quality that the Pi2, but used to play HiMediaPlayer instead of DVDPlayer, which has problems with the ISO Ghossing 3D.

Question:
Now that Kodi is capable of playing 3D ISO DVDPlayer, can I use DVDPlayer player in the Q5 (instead of HiMediaPlayer) and avoid problems Ghossing?
Will I have the same image quality with the raspberry?

¿Himedia Q5 (with DVDPlayer default) = Pi 2 + fluid menu (Aeon Nox) + more power + android app?

2 kit Pi = 65 €

Himedia Q5 = 137 € (more power than the Pi2, remote control included and android app)

I am very happy with the Pi 2 (that is now perfect to play 3D ISO). But I'd like Aeon Nox menu smoothly, and if I have further remote control (WAT effect), I am willing to pay double for it.

I do not want is to have poorer image or ghosting.

It's like thatHuh Will I lose anything if I change the Q5?

Now I have the raspberry pi 2 24/7, also use it to download torrents with Kodi rTorrent addon. Will there be any problem to do with the Q5?

Apologize for so many questions, but I would not change and get worse!

Thank you all for your responses.

Thanks mate. Think I got it sorted now.

Downloaded anydvdhd which has a 21 day evaluate period so hopefully I'll get my 3d discs all done before then.

Using Imgburn to create iso.

You can rip straight to ISO with AnyDVD HD. Don't need ImgBurn.

For now, I'm making that call based on my subjective impressions obviously, but also objective tests and overall user feedback on forums. But, if you want to develop a new rating system (maybe vote-based), I'm good with that, to replace what I'm doing now.

If you can produce a smallish sample (e.g. a minute or two) and upload to a file hosting site (dropbox or google drive are good options).

Setting up a vote based system would be silly.

Something I have learnt whilst getting older - you can NEVER please everyone!!!!! So, please keep it exactly as it is. Your chart and review is what got me (and others) here and the comments and grades helped me tremendously.

Since it is mainly about 3D - it is obviously more important that 3D works faultless in correct framerate, than still exotic ATMOS which probably only very few people use.

Yes, there will always be people saying you are wrong - but as soon as you listen to them and change your system, others are going to be unhappy.

Just keep it exactly as it is, the comments in this section can be read by anyone and so all good and bad can be read here.

Maybe one day the player to rule them all will suddenly be available - but probably not. Been dreaming about that device for years...

For now the Pi2 is probably the best player you can get for your money, with a very close but double the price Q5. Someone needing ATMOS more than 3D without issues, probably should get the Q5.
