PVR Optimized Skin?
#1
I'm a long-time MythTV user and I recently started using Kodi on a Pi2 as my frontend device. I find the UI/UX to be quite different than most frontends like Tivo, DirecTV, MythTV, etc. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for skins that are optimized for PVR use?

For example - The popup menu when you hit select/enter on the remote. It never goes away, and the play/pause/stop cluster is pointless when you are using a remote. It seems like it's intended for mouse control.

Any suggestions for what is the best skin for primarily PVR usage? Or, tweaks to make it behave more like common PVRs?

Have a look at this: http://kodi.tv/kodi-15-0-skin-showcase/ i was originally using the Aeon Nox skin(s) that Leatherface links to, and although it worked ok on my RPI2, i felt it was just that little bit too heavy. I personally use Back Row now as a result of the above blog. PVR works well and i have no problems with it.

If you are using a remote, I would suggest doing some jiggery pokery with your remote mapping xml... for example, I’ve mapped the channel plus and minus buttons on the remote so it opens the Channel selector (the same as if you were to press the context menu) and i've also mapped a button for the EPG so when I press a button to show the EPG and then i can press the same button to hide it.

When you press select it brings up the OSD, to hide this i just press "backup" which is a key i have mapped on my remote to "backspace on the keyboard". to be honest i don’t tend to use the OSD i guess it very much depends on the remote you are using. there's quite a cool addon that helps you with remote config: http://addons.kodi.tv/show/script.keymap/

I'm also a MythTV user that is trying to move to Kodi but feel that the PVR approach is a little different and hard to get used to. Which skin did you end up using?
