I also use playlists a lot, for things like Oscar winning movies, movies by a specific director, animated Disney movies, foreign movies, IMDb Top 250 movies and many more. It's certainly a lot easier to create playlists than to tag movies one by one, especially when you have a large collection like mine (3700+ movies).

I used Madnox. In that skin, if you use a smart playlist for a menu item it asks if you want to display or play. I definitely use them more for views/lists. To me it's just an easy way to filter things.

I have created a new smart playlist of the type "tvshows" with a rule "path contains". When selected, using the smart playlists option, the libraryids returned.
This means I can use it as a sort of filter.

When series is selected I retrieve all series (including libraryids of course). Putting that against the smart playlist I can leave the other series out. So it can be done.
Now the implementation of it?

Because it's a filter you should be able to quickly access it? Is a new button at the top an option?



And when selected you will get an overview of all smart playlists of type "tvshow":



Then select the playlist and it will go back to the overview, but this time only the series in the smart playlist will remain.

Or do you have any other ideas?

Ok, concerning the smart playlists movie view I have this now:







I now need to implement a nice way back to all the movies....so undo the selection of a smart playlist and to let the user know a smart playlist is active.

Starting to be a very good product and I see that you keep focusing a lot on Movies and Tv-Series.
Just wanted to let you know that I have made a portable installation of Kodi Isengard with only music and karaoke CDG to test out the usability of your app.

I think you can make an entire app around music in Kodi. And maybe this is better idea :-)
The focus can then be entirely on music.

I believe that since Jarvis some things around musicbrainz ids are fixed.
The app can use musicbrainz as a an external search engine. Lots of info to be found on that site.
And of course it will not be a problem to do a search in Kodi on different items.

yeah, there is amazing support for both MBid and Acoustid in Jarvis.
I have all my music tagged with these except from the karaoke files..

Unfortunately I use your app with Isengard (as well as Jarvis / Krypton) and all though you are planning for the future I hope that you still gonna make the app compatible with the existing versions. I follow the development too and have all versions since Frodo installed on my system in different portable folders.

My only hope was that you could be so kind as to honor "the last KaraKodi" (Isengard 15.2) with a good search for music. After Isengard there is no longer support for Karaoke and my entertainment system would just be incomplete without it.I also believe (just like you) that there would be nice to have an entire app focused on just music, but for now so the waititing time would be shorter adding the small modifications to your existing Kyra app would be super fantastic.

I felt the only way to truly show you the specific need for change was to make those screen shots with the desired changes. Just a small change as adding a button more for the smart playlists to play in Party Mode and making the filter for huge collection albums would go a long way and really make the app ready for karaoke as well as music... (some karaoke albums are up to 1000, 2500 songs long and some music collections as much as 750 songs pr album, that is why the filter in the album view comes in handy)

The smart playlist in play in party mode is something I can add (I have just tested it and it works...I see the songs in the audio playlist queue appearing and the light party mode turns to green). The filter box for the songs (above the cover of the album) can also be done.

The whole search in Kodi part I didn't put in the iPhone version. The reason for this is quite simply: for movies I could search for an imdb (or tmdb) id, for series an tvdb id. For music there is no unique identifier Kodi could give me back. Ok, now the musicbrainz id works properly :-)
This means I can add the music search options to the normal search menu option (and in the end remove the search in Kodi menu option in the iPad version, because I can integrate the Kodi database into it).

But when I have no idea....I still have a lot of things on my to do list.

So:
- the smart playlist play in party mode button....yes
- the filter for album songs (above the big cover)....yes
