Please restore threads

The following threads were closed and trashed because his add-on repo contained an add-on that could possibly conflict with the Kodi.tv repo. That has now been resolved (see here), but the threads have not been restored yet. Can someone please do so? They do not violate any of the forum rules, and now they no longer have any add-on ID conflict against the Kodi.tv repo.

This represents 2,032 posts (excluding the two posts from each thread announcing they were being closed), dating back to 2014. They contain a great deal of valuable information, guides, and help. The threads themselves are for some of the most useful and sought out Kodi add-ons out there.

After talking to several people involved and/or knowledgeable on the subject it becomes clear the add-on repo still contains addons which behave in ways that are currently not allowed in our main repository and can cause issues to our users.
This also means we do not allow listing or linking to the repository that has these addons on the forum (or on the wiki for that matter).

That is bullshit and you know it. But fine, let them behave that way. I'm out.

You guys should also trash every single thread about PlexKodiConnect, Emby, and, wait, I'll make a list. Effectively banning any add-on that can't be in the Kodi.tv repo is somehow beyond pants-on-head retarded. Any sane person still left on Team Kodi needs to speak up about this. This is basically "we know better than our users, so now we're going to force them to do things our way".

<Gobsmacked>

Is this a new policy? Only add-ons which qualify for the official repo are allowed support threads here?
Will there be a mass thread cull now, or does it just 'happen' to be this one dev who's affected?

And just to clarify, these dangerous add-ons are ones that Team Kodi was quite happy to have in the Official Repo last month?

I remember when people used to talk about the 'spirit' of xbmc. Seriously. Hard to imagine I know.

Ned, try actually reading what I said and not what you wanted to read.

Repositories that can actively break installations of users and break their other already installed addons are not allowed.
Linking to those repo's (eg superrepo, whatever) is not allowed.

I did not say "addons that are not in our repo are not allowed on the forum" <- This you made up.

Being able to modify the user's XML files was once seen as a feature of add-ons. Now it's "dangerous" to edit keymaps because it means using Kodi in a new/different way. What's next, Apple-like rules about skins and causing confusion in the UI?

It's totally understandable to not allow these things in the Kodi.tv add-on repo, but banishing the topic on the forum is absurd. No doubt, people with the robwebset repo installed will be treated the same as people with a pirate video add-on repo installed, and their threads will be trashed simply for having it installed and visible in a log.

Surely not?

That's effectively what is happening. Any add-on can possibly break a user installation. Allowing users to make informed decisions about this has always been allowed in the community. Several core Kodi features can break a user installation.

Worst case scenario, one of rob's add-ons causes a button to not work on someone's remote. If a user is informed of that risk, and choses to accept it for the additional feature, how is that a bad thing? How is that different than using a nightly build, or an experimental feature in a stable version of Kodi?

This isn't about protecting users, this is about a small number of people who think "their way" is the only correct way, and wanting to force that on everyone else.

I understand that this isn't up to you alone, and you can't do anything about it so long as those people feel that way. They've effectively hijacked the project to suit their vision and not the original intention of the features. That doesn't mean you should defend a bullshit decision.

EDIT: and nice touch making a parallel between this and superrepo. Way to villainize the work of a long term community member and volunteer. Maybe we should compare him to Hilter next?

You seem to be thinking this is just about a keymap, or just about a module or just about a <insert word>. I think it is about the combination.
Also, the post you linked to in the first post of this thread is supposed to be the post that shows the dispute had been solved ?

You bringing your own hate and your own dispute with the team into it is really not helping either.

This has nothing to do with hate or my own disputes. Though it would be fair to say that those people don't like me because I'm not willing to stick my head in the sand for the sake of "preventing drama". It's so much easier when you can pretend like these issues don't exist. This isn't the first time we've seen "compromise" to keep those people happy, even when it really hurt the project. You should not feel good about that.

There's no "combination" of things. This is an over reach, a slippery slope, fueled by an "I'm right and you're wrong" attitude that has taken over Team Kodi. It pains me to see an awesome project like Kodi go down this path. It's not right.

I'm sorry if posting these things "causes drama", but what do you expect the reaction to be? People should be outraged by this. Most of them won't show it because they're afraid you'll do to them what was done to me.

Well you might feel that way but that is not the way it went down.
I saw your post and talked to the people knowledgable on the plugins subject and the answer was a very resounding no.

It became clear that the issue has not been solved, and the addon repository is not something we want on our forums at this point.
People are not ready to unbin the threads and I am not going to go against all of the repository maintainers.

Also, I think the Kodi project is going a great way, and we are accomplishing things that seemed unreachable a few years ago.
We are also getting more moderators on the forums and generally getting a better atmosphere.
You might find everything is going down but honestly I find that atmosphere of doom depressing.

I am out - I've spent more time on this than I had.
