Solved Stuttering unless OSD is on
#61
can you try with http://kodi.wiki/view/advancedsettings.xml with the following content:
Code:
<advancedsettings>
  <loglevel hide="false">2</loglevel>
  <allowdeferredrendering>false</allowdeferredrendering>
</advancedsettings>

I now saw stuttering also when OSD was displayed (though not as bad as when it was not displayed (i think)).

Because of the debug level 2 there is debug info running on the screen all the time -> video runs butter smooth in my case. The allowdeferredrendering-setting made no difference but everything is worth checking. Debug log attached:

What i noticed while logging is also that the debug info FPS keeps switching between 23.4 and 24.4 fps every second or so.

Thanks for trying to help!

I noticed the same thing. According to on-screen debug log info, the FPS fluctuates between 23.4 and 24.4 fps.

Took a little while to get this working (needed to solve some DLL-dependencies and additionally install the Visual Studio 2015 Community). But it was all worth of it, this version is working perfectly Smile Absolutely amazing work from @FernetMenta Smile I tried all the trickiest 4K HEVC Main10 -stuff I could find and everything works butter smooth, no dropped/skipped frames. Even the 400mbs sample file from Kodi Wiki (jellyfish-400-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit.mkv) was a piece of cake to Kodi Smile

I don't know what kind of voodoo magic @FernetMenta used here but it would be really great, if this fix could be possible to implement to Krypton-branch already.

Many thanks for taking your time with this!

Just got back from a short new years trip and before i start looking for the dlls needed for the test version i just wanted to check if the fix is included in KodiSetup-20170101-cbab2bd-master (i still get stutter with this version but now regardless if OSD is on or not).

You are correct. According to github, this fix has already been committed by @FernetMenta and @MartijnKaijser to both Krypton- and Master-branches and my own tests with latest nightly builds confirm that. Both works great, at least in my case everything plays silky smooth Smile

Yeah, looking at the commits i thought it would be fixed so had to ask before going on with the test version. There were two dlls i couldn't find in visual studio (probably looking in the wrong place).
But the stuttering i see now is not the same as before. First it's instant as soon as i start playback and bringing up the OSD doesn't help either as before. Ctrl-Shift-O shows it's dropping a lot of frames.
Will grab a new debug log in case someone wants to look into what's wrong. LibreELEC works fine so it's not really a huge issue for me.

Off topic:
Reason i'm trying to get it to work on Windows instead of using LibreELEC is that find the picture better when outputting ycbcr. I'm not sure why but 3 different TV's i've tried adds a contour around dark grey areas when using RGB that i can't get rid off. Easy to spot using "1-Black Clipping.mp4" in the calibration clips from http://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-displa...ation.html
Contour is there in LibreELEC and Windows when driver is set to RGB but goes away when driver in Windows is set to ycbcr. Guess it's either AMD or the TV assumes desktop use or something when fed with RGB and does "enhancements". Turning off all enhancements in the TV doesn't help though.
Sorry for rant/off topic

To your offtopic: Kodi does render in RGB. For LE make sure to put your TV to full range as the radeon driver on LE outputs full range only. Alternatively keep the TV at limited range and use kodi's "Use Limited Range" setting.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
