I don't think a vanilla DVB-S2 tuner will get you anything in the U.S.

The NUCs are still going to have IR baked in.

It will be interesting to see if the 3D version works on this device as the NUC6CAYH has one HDMI 2.0 port only. With the Beebox 7100s the 3D movies work with the second HDMI 1.4 port only.

I have decided to go with the Asrock Beebox Kaby lake since this is the only Kaby Lake device that has 2 HDMI port (1.4 & 2.0), will received it tomorrow and do some testing with @afedchin MVC build and also test playback with 4k (HDR)

Let me know if you can playback HDR content with the Beebox (not only playback but when also your TV switch to HDR mode).

I don't think HDR playback is possible yet in Windows, Most of the Kodi Dev are focusing on Linus.

Not true. And it's linux written by linus. The OS where you don't need to reserve a core and ssd speed for the virus scanner (just kidding).

Here: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=299115 <- a linux dev invested his christmas holidays to fix a severe windows only bug in fulltime, so much about love.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Can anyone get 4K 60Hz output from the HDMI port of these Kaby Lake machines?

I can get 4K 60Hz ONLY from the Displayport... (of MSI Cubi 2)

Must buy the mini DP -> HDMI 2.0a cable to get that, right?

Take Two, this is my second go with the Intel Kaby Lake hardware, received the AsRock Beebox Kaby Lake yesterday after a frustration start got it working, the Asrock BeeBox Kaby Lake is much better that the MSI Cubi 2 Kaby Lake some of the issue that I was experiencing with the MSI is not on the Asrock, maybe because the Asrock has 2 HDMI Ports (1.4 and 2.0)

These are settings that I am using to get it work with @afedchin MVC Krypton Build.

Your Display drive must be set 1920X1080p 60Hz for 3D playback to work, also if you have UHD HDR TV TURN OFF DEEP COLOR or UHD COLOR or whatever your TV manufacturer call it.

These settings allow the display to switch to proper resolution and framerate

Some playback testing with HDR/Dolby Vision files, the only thing not working is the HDR signal is not outputting hope one of the Kodi Dev will show some loveWink

So far I am very pleased with and this one is a keeper

There's nothing to play back... so i'm not sure why they would really focus on it at all.

@movie78 or others with KabyLake

I'm interested is Asrock BeeBox Kaby Lake but I will wait CES 2017 to see if some others miniPC are coming out and compareing before buying one. I'm also interested in the new Quicksync encoder for some HEVC ( 8bit and 10 bit ) encoding

As you are on windows 10, could you if you have some time do some tests for me.

With QSVENCC 2.60 : http://rigaya34589.blog135.fc2.com/blog-...ry-10.html ( link for download : https://onedrive.live.com/?id=6BDD4375AC...75AC8933C6 )

Test 1 :
QSVEncC64.exe --check-features features.txt
and pastbin the result

Test 2 :
encoding this file : http://forum.videohelp.com/attachments/3...080p50.mkv

QSVEncC64.exe -i SVT_1080p50.mkv --vbr 5000 -o result.mkv

and upload the result file or at least give me some metrics with ffmpeg ( ffmpeg -i SVT_1080p50.mkv -i result.mkv -lavfi ssim;[0:v][1:v]psnr -f null - )

Can you give a little detail about the Quicksync Encoder and how to install it?
Does it work with Kodi?

It's not in direct relation with KODI.

It's a tool that use Quicksync ( intel Hardware encoder ) to encode videos files in AVC or HEVC format.
As I transcode some of my files ( from dvb-t source ) I'll like to see if Kabylake Hardware is good enough for it.

You don't need to "install" it, the QSVEncC64.exe file is in QSVEnc_2.60.zip.
All you have to do is to use it in command line.

Ok give me a step by step on what files I need to download and what i need to do, the link you send is Chinese and the OneDrive folder contains too many files.

Thanks,

Can you upload a ~30MB file somewhere ? I yes you don't need the ffmpeg part.

Download QSVEnc_2.60.zip from here https://onedrive.live.com/?id=6BDD4375AC...75AC8933C6
decompress QSVEnc_2.60.zip and go in QSVEnc_2.60\QSVEncC\x64 folder to see QSVEncC64.exe.
copy http://forum.videohelp.com/attachments/3...080p50.mkv in this folder with QSVEncC64.exe ( QSVEnc_2.60\QSVEncC\x64 )
download https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/win64/...static.zip decompress and copy ffmpeg.exe ( from bin folder ) in QSVEnc_2.60\QSVEncC\x64 folder.

Create a new text document test.txt in QSVEnc_2.60\QSVEncC\x64 folder with these 3 lines (you can copy/paste ):

QSVEncC64.exe --check-features features.txt
QSVEncC64.exe -i SVT_1080p50.mkv -c hevc --vbr 5000 -o result.mkv
ffmpeg -i SVT_1080p50.mkv -i result.mkv -lavfi ssim;[0:v][1:v]psnr -f null - > metrics.txt 2>&1

rename the test.txt to test.bat with .bat instead of .txt ( see here if the extensions is hidden https://www.file-extensions.org/article/...windows-10 )

double click on test.bat

If all is good you have now 3 new files features.txt, metrics.txt and result.mkv
Pastbin features.txt and metrics.txt and if possible upload somwhere result.mkv ( ~30 MB )
Reply
opps it's

ffmpeg -i SVT_1080p50.mkv -i result.mkv -lavfi ssim;[0:v][1:v]psnr -f null - > metrics.txt 2>&1

and not

ffmpeg -i SVT_1080p50.mkv -i result.mkv -lavfi ssim;[0:v][1:v]psnr -f null - > metrics.txt
