MSI Cubi-004BUS
5th Gen Intel Broadwell i3-5005U Dual Core Processor at 2.0ghz.
8Gb DDR3 Memory
500GB Toshiba Hard Drive
Windows 10 Pro
Good deal, I went from the Dell Micro PC to a 7th gen i3 Beebox, the performance upgrade is noticable.

Sent from my HTC 10 (typie typie)

What performance differences did you notice?

I am currently considering a refurb Dell 3050, and I see it is "Recommended" with "No issues" in the spreadsheet (and it's CHEAP!). Will I be happy with it for 1080p and MVC playback with HD audio? That is pretty much all I'm concerned about, but if the BeeBoxs have better pic quality then I will have to re-think.......

Dell Micro plays back video perfect. No issues there. If you use a demanding skin which has a lot of different features it struggles to keep up with that. When navigating around in kodi there is a lag. If you use a basic skin no issues at all.

Sweet! Thanks for the reassurance. Smile

I bought the Dell 3050 on Black Friday from Dell and didn't like it, everything on that hardware seems slow to me Navigation 1080p playback etc..

I will suggest to spend a little bit more or get the Intel DN2820/2830..

That is just my 2 cents

Hmmm...what skin were you using?

Did you have actual issues with playback, or do you mean it just took longer to start playback?

Issues with playback and I was using the default skin for Krypton.

Yeah the Dell Micro PC is sluggish on Windows 10 but runs pretty good with LibreELEC.

Hhmm. No issues for me with playback using Krypton. Running it through receiver and projector too. I agree 100% that it is sluggish overall which is why I'm upgrading but no issues watching a movie at all through network storage. Streaming may be a different story but I don't use it for that.

I was just trying to play some simple 1080p file through USB and had an issue, drivers, and all the windows system updates were up to date.I think if you are going to spend $150 look on eBay for i3 or i5, if you find the Dell for $80 then I will say maybe.

Well, the Dell 3050 I found was a lot more than $80 (closer to $145 shipped), but it already has RAM (2GB), HDD (32GB) and Windows 10 installed.

Can you (or anyone else) link me to a better option? I would prefer to buy it with everything already installed, but I am tech savvy enough to install on my own if it will save me $$$. Also, I have no problem with the "free" Win 10 version. Smile

Thanks!

EDIT: Just wanted to add that if the new NUC is as snappy as the Chromebox (what I'm used to), I'll be more than happy! Smile

I was under the assumption that LibreELEC does not do MVC...is that not the case?

It does not, correct.

Well, I'm looking to get a NUC that can do MVC, so.....

Thanks anyway!

What is the max are you willing to spend and not look back for an upgrade?

On the Cheap side this would be my number one option Intel NUC DN2820/2830, offer the seller $70.

On the Max side, I suggest getting Intel Kaby Lake.

Well, I have always been the one to pay a bit more for quality and longevity. My original $150 price point was only because that's about what I paid for the Chromebox. Smile

Looks like the one in your first link does not come with RAM, HDD or Win 10 (Win 8.1). That's not really a big deal since I've built PCs before (never a NUC), but would prefer an all-in-one solution (and am willing to pay a small premium for that convenience).

Do you got something "mid-range" (say $200-$250, all-in) that you could recommend?? It looks like anything Kaby Lake "bare bones" would be $300+, is that about right?
