This is the main selling point of the new Shield for me.

I don't see how it could really. Google Assistant is mostly about controlling general android. I'm sure it works with a bunch of other apps . But it's brand brand new.

If you're wanting to experiment with voice commands and kodi you could always look into Yatse. It's a kodi remote control app on Android. You can give it voice commands play play, Ffw, rw, stop, 'play 'die hard'' etc , also works quite well for your music library,

By saying, "Ok Google, play Suicide Squad on Kodi", or "launch Kodi". Pretty much the same way it's suppose to work with Netflix.

Yep. Someone needs to be interested enough to step up, study the API, and write the integration service. Beauty of open-source, if nobody wants it enough to code it, it will never happen. Echo is much more mature and there's no Kodi skill to this very day.

Thanks for the link! I searched for that when I got my Echo last month and somehow missed it.

For those in the UK - original shield 16GB is 99.99 at Game

Obviously looking to clear stock for the new one. Good price considering the hardware is almost identical.

After I sold my old Shield a while ago, I purchased the "new" Shield Android TV recently. It has the latest firmware with Android 7.0 Nougat running on it.

Apparently, the refresh rate switching bug with Shield (HDMI 2.0) - AV Receiver (HDMI 2.0) - Display (HDMI 1.4) chains was partially fixed. When the Shield is set to 59.94 fps, refresh rate switching is correctly triggered with 50 fps content. But with 24/23.976 fps content, the refresh rate remains at 59.94 fps. Does anyone who had the "old" Shield running on Geforce Experience 3.3 know whether 50 fps refresh rate switching also worked then?

In the SPMC or Kodi 17 RC3 video settings, I can only select 60, 59.94 or 50 fps. 24 or 23.976 fps are not available. Since the HDMI handshake seems to be working when a refresh rate switch from 59.94 to 50 fps is needed, should it not be possible to fix 24/23.976 fps as well?

Most of the Apps need to be optimised for the new FW..

24p works fine for me on Shield 2015 5.0 preview full HDMI 2.0

switching to 50 and 24 fps is working for me on the 2015 SHIELD with firmware 3.3 and Krypton RC. My SHIELD is directly plugged to the TV, no AVR in between, TV is HDMI 1.4.

Not only has the refresh rate switching bug not fixed, you can't even change the refresh rate or color space in such configuration. It seems to falls back to RGB 1080p59.94Hz.
In my opinion these need to be listed as a known ongoing issues on Page #1
Particularly considering new AVR upgrades will very likely be HDMI 2.0 Spec.

@wesk05, would the previously mentioned Monoprice HDCP 2.2 to 1.4 Converter possibly alleviate this issue ?

For me it's particularly interesting whether switching to 50 fps with a HDMI 2.0 receiver and a HDMI 1.4 display worked under Geforce Experience 3.3. This is because - if I recall correctly - no refresh rate switching (not even 50 fps, which is working now) worked with that combination when I had my last Shield running Geforce Experience 3.0 or 3.1.

I tested it on my HDMI 2.0 bedroom TV. Refresh rate switching was indeed working flawlessly for all frame rates. But in my living room I only have a HDMI 1.4 projector in combination with a HDMI 2.0 Onkyo receiver. There, as I wrote, only switching to 50 fps works. But if I remember correctly, on Geforce Experience 3.0 or 3.1 no refresh rate switching whatsoever would work in conjunction with a HDMI 2.0 receiver and a HDMI 1.4 display. So, I am curious whether the working 50 fps frame rate switching is actually an improvement over 3.3 and previous firmwares?

For me and the new 2017 Shield even 25hz content doesn't switch frame rate, I'm using the nightly from 16th I think and a HDMI 1.4 TV (Panasonic ZT60), HDMI 2.2 Denon 6200 AVR and the shield and I cannot set any color space or refresh rate at all anywhere in anything, it always switches back to RGB and 59.9*. If I plug the Shield directly to the TV it works fine. TVHZ reports all the correct frequencies supported but it doesn't help at all changing any settings in TVHZ.
