1- ASRock J-4205 with Windows 10
2- Using Optical(spdif) to AVR for 5.1 audio (no HDMI in/out on AVR)
3- HDMI out to 1080p TV

How do I get simultaneous audio from both the Optical and the HDMI? I can only have one or the other at this point.

I have tried the tricks discussed online for enabling Stereo Mix device in the Recording devices control panel with no success. All of these tips seem to only speak of using speakers and HDMI audio simultaneously and none discuss Optical. Not sure if that is the issue.

Does anyone know how to make this work?

Thanks!

You don't. There's no such thing as a stupid question. In 2017 however, there is this thing called google.

Please don't be rude and unhelpful. I have searched Google and this forum without finding a solution on MY particular MB. If you read my post thoroughly you will see that I have tried some of the tricks discussed online however I can not find a discussion that pertains to my situation. How do you think I found those tricks without doing a Google search?

I know there are other MB's that can do this but this board is fairly new and this is the best forum for people using this MB for my same or similar use.

I don't believe you. Windows can only output one at a time.

1. This problem has NOTHING to do with apollo lake, you need to create a new thread.
2. Instead of asking, how do i do X to accomplish Y. Why not ask how to accomplish Y... and let others figure out the X.

Honcho, Hostile much? I don't believe you either because I know now for a fact that you can make it work in Windows. How do I know, because I just found my solution last night and it works very well with no sync issues.

And yes, my questions have as much to do with Apollo Lake as all the other questions in this thread in regards to how one gets HD Audio passthrough via the HDMI and DVI->HDMI simultaneously using the same Apollo Lake based ASRock boards that I am using.

Thank you Dr.Feelgood, dricky, jakejm79 for giving your helpful input and suggestions without being rude or hostile towards my questioning

No it really doesn't.

Have you done the firmware upgrade for the LSPCon chip? You'll need to do it in Windows unfortunately... There should be no issues with the LSPcon after upgrage to 1.66.

Yes I installed windows 1st and updated the bios and the firmware to 1.66

This is a vizio E43u-D2 and according to the specs, it should do 2160 at 60

HDMI 1 Tech Spec600MHz pixel clock rate:
2160p@60fps, 4:4:4, 8-bit
2160p@60fps, 4:2:2, 12-bit
2160p@60fps, 4:2:0, 12-bit

but when I use the xrandr command I get this

DP1 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 950mm x 540mm
3840x2160 30.00*+ 24.00 29.97 23.98
4096x2160 24.00 23.98
1920x1080 60.00 59.94 30.00 24.00 29.97 23.98
1920x1080i 60.00 59.94
1280x720 60.00 59.94
1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00
800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32
720x480 60.00 59.94
640x480 75.00 60.00 59.94
720x400 70.08

For an hdmi cable I am uing a new amazon hdmi cable.

After much research I found out that the Vizio will not do 2160p @ 60 in the GUI but it will play files that are 2160p at 60 or play games ok. I was able to play test files from the Kodi wiki, so I think I am good.

So how's the solution you found specific to Apollo Lake ASRock board?

Update works on all boards with Megachips LSPCON... like the ASRock J3455/4205-ITX.

Has anyone else encountered similar problems?? I was about to go for the Instant Flash version and wouldn't expect something like this ...

I believe someone posted a similar problem it was in German .. I suppose the instant flash method is safer as others have said as I did mine in windows .

If anyone else had the problem and found a diy solution pls share ..returning the board is not an option for me as I bought from a store in Hongkong while I was on holiday.

I just bricked my Asrock J4205-ITX via Internet Flash update to bios 1.3 .
The update process worked normally ... but now it does not boot.
I think I have to send it to the dealer.

Mine didn't reboot too, I waited 15 minutes, then disconnected and reconnected the mains, then it booted. I had a massage that it will reboot in a few seconds but it didn't happen.

https://www.amazon.com/INTEL-NUC-Kit-Com...44011&th=1 will this nuc be able to boot straight to xbmc/kodi/Libre-elec and do 1080 hevc? for snappiest performance id prefer to boot straight into them to avoid OS overhead

My J3455-ITX sit's at around 30-40% decoding 1080p HEVC in "CPU only" mode and 10-15% using the iGPU.

Try: http://jell.yfish.us/media/jellyfish-110...d-hevc.mkv - highly depends on the file.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Oki getting the same 10-15% using the iGPU, which is no surprise considering that apollo-lake supports 4k HEVC. In CPU only mode using LAV+MadVR, i get 100% CPU usage on this file and get 15% dropped frames. So yes those high bitrate files would need a i3/i5 for CPU only mode and not a "Atom" based one. So far i only encountered one Anime HVEC file that would not play in iGPU mode and still decoded fine without dropped frames in CPU mode. So you would need to encounter a very high bitrate 1080p HEVC file, that was "strangely" encoded before the J3455 starts dropping frames.

the HEVC Decoding abilitys of the GPU are better then say the GPU Decoder for HEVC in the Odroid C2? for the box i linked

"better" in what sense?

well the C2 for instance if you try and fast forward 6000 bitrate hevc 1080p it will fast forward for for a few seconds and then lock up the system, i suspect the C2,S decoder is strong enough to decode, but not fast enough for fast forwarding maybe im not sure
