PowerDVD 17 has been playing UHD HDR perfectly for months now using an old GTX 960 in a PC with full menus. Playback does not require anything special. Turn on HDR in Windows. Same with madVR. It will pass through HDR 10 h.265 or convert to SDR with a 3dLUT. Using Kodi v.18 x64 seamlessly with both now. Windows Movies & TV app also works. We are waiting on code to auto sense and auto enable Windows HDR switch to complete the entire auto process. Until then you can just use the 3dLUT which also completes automation. Complete automation means just pressing enter on the title in the library with a remote and it plays back perfectly no matter what it is - 3D, 2D, mkv, iso, HDR, h.265, etc. Various external player friendly for unique users choices, paid or shareware. Doesn't matter. Kodi internal videoplayer just lacks too many essentials at this time. No UHD. No HDR. No frame packed MVC 3D with 4k hardware. And no menus.

Some feedback:
Installed v.18 x64 Kodi.
Selected 'Show Blu ray menu in settings. Got pop-up saying make sure JRE is installed. Installed JRE.
Tried a few BD's.
Menus are working.
Skips FBI warnings etc., but does show trailers and goes to Menu items as it should.
Playback has some issues on some titles: FF, REW, Skip to next chapter, seek from scrollbar DO NOT function using mouse or remote. Stop works. Home menu works (you can select a chapter to go forward or back here). High bitrate audios do not work on some titles but do on others. Skipping trailers works. Some titles simply freeze and do not respond to anything. Others work very well. Did not distinguish title differences but all are iso.

On Linux, Zesty with openjdk1.8 background movie of menu loads, but menu never shows up. The debug log mentions something about a playlist less than zero. This is with nightly from ppa.

Tried a few BD-J and most of them played without an issue, just had some issue with a few.
I also notice that 3D BD-J doesn't work, any idea why?
Thanks!

ace had a temporary fix for 3D blurays to at least still play in 2D, including menus. Tested it some days ago. The fix is probably not in yet.

yes it should. I'm watching physical blurays (thus BDMV folder structure) via SMB share from a different PC on Win10 and Android (no BD-J for Android yet though).
