Budget AMLogic S9xx Media Player Options
An AMLogic S905X is a HDMI 2.0 device which means:

H.265 4K@60fps

H.264 4K@30fps

There is very very little 4K video content encoded as H.264 anyway because its an older inefficient video compression standard that would result in really large video file sizes if it were used these days. 4K UHD Blurays for example all use H.265 aka HEVC.

The H.264 combo for 4K can be considered irrelevant.

Google are using 4K VP9 Profile 2 for 4K Youtube which various AML S905X boxes support with the correct Android Firmware mods.

AVS+ I believe is the HD video standard used in TV Broadcasting in China.

BTW: Geekbuying are cheaper than Gearbest.

I have just ordered this from Geekbuying.

In my NUC i use OpenElec with a BT dongle for my PS3 BT remote, which works brilliantly. I take it it's not as easy as plugging in a BT dongle in this box with LibreElec to make BT work?

No it cannot do either of them. No Kodi auto refresh switching and no auto resolution switching.

Quote:This is the most different between both devices that important to me. I thought about the MI BOX because it compatible to israel internet content providers and hebrew language. Do you know if the MeCool M8S Pro Plus support that too ?

If you ran LibreELEC Kodi Krypton on the MECOOL, it will support Hebrew as well as Auto refresh/resolution switching.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodi_(software)

Hebrew is supported in Android Nougat from Brief research (click)

thank you very much !!

My Odroid c2 using libreelec works fine with this device:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)

AML S912 devices running Marshmallow Firmware are the worst devices on the market you can buy. Bugs galore.

However the S912 MM Firmware equipped MINIX U9-H, that has bug busted MM Firmware works well. Smile

AML S912 devices running Nought Firmware have some bug fixes but they cannot run LibreELEC Kodi Krypton properly.

AML S905x device running Marshmallow Firmware are the second worst devices you can buy. Good for LibreELEC tho.

AML S905x Nougat are a tiny bit slower than AML S912 and have no problems running LibreELEC. AML Nougat has bug fixes.

If you do not need Android HDR & VP9 - AML S905 devices are the ones to buy - especially for LibreELEC.

Personally I would not bother with AML S912's. They are one trick pony devices so far as stable working Kodi is concerned. Android only.

S905x = VP9 Profile 2 & HDR10 & 100M only Ethernet

S905 = no VP9 Profile 2 & no HDR10 but Gigabit Ethernet

S912 = VP9 Profile 2, HDR10, Gigabit Ethernet & Dolbyvision (however still needs proper Firmware support for DV first)

Hi, not sure whether this has been discussed before here not. I cant find any thread related to this , when searching cheaper player for KODI (preferably clean), i came to know about S905W chip, which is very new to market it seems

http://www.geekbuying.com/item/TANIX-TX3...84467.html

Specs seems a bit inferior to S905.

I am tech noob.. can somebody shred more light on this compared to S905/S905X.
Is it rebranded S905X?

TIA

S905W = a S905 minus the Gigabit Ethernet and limited to 4K@30fps only. There is no HDR or VP9 Profile 2 hardware decoding.

Looks pretty useless.

Thanks for the info
So technically inferior than S905X also?
M8S Pro+ is still best value for dual boot?

thanks

Inferior to both S905 and S905X.

S905 has GigE and 2160p (aka 4K) support up to 60Hz support.
S905X has 2160p support up to 60Hz and HDR and VP9 Profile 2 hardware decode.

You might want to look at a S905D for Gigabit Ethernet + DVB Support and VP9 + HDR 10 (same as a S905X) .

Hi everyone, just registered to this forum. I'd kindly ask if anyone has a Vorke Z1 TV box (android 7.1.1, S912) so as to help me: YouTube and Kodi aren't at 4K and I don't know why. YouTube gives me 1080p option at best, Kodi runs entirely at 1920x1080. Maybe the standard HDMI cable sold in the box with the Vorke isn't capable of 4K? Please help Huh

For 4K anything on Android devices the Android Settings > Display > Screen Resolution > needs to be set First to 4k2k60hz

HDMI 2.0 must of course also be used.

4K Youtube needs proper a Android Firmware build.prop, and I doubt the required mods have been done to a cheap Android Box to allow this.
See the Freaktab Website for bug busted Alternate Firmware.

The Kodi forum cannot help you with Android Firmware issues.
