[Developers Needed] SoundCloud addon
#1
This is in response to the latest news of SoundCloud plugin discussed in https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=206635&page=8

Since the developer for it has gone quiet for over a year, and the latest server side changes have broken the login, search, and many other features of SoundCloud.  I'm hereby asking if there are any addon developers willing to adopt this addon, patch it and make an update to fix the broken addon.

Sincerely,

Momoe

I've got the search fixed, but I'm having trouble getting the authentication working. I'm not quite sure what the problem is, but the lockdown on issuing new credentials isn't helping. In the meantime I just disabled the popup asking the user to login.  So we're currently at search and browse functionality.

My repo is here: https://github.com/ukigumoh/plugin.audio.soundcloud

Thank you for this commit @ukigumo It is very much appreciated. With the search and brows functionality fixed; at least this is a usable addon again. I will check this patch out. Thanks again for your efforts.

Thanks for the search fix. This addon is much more userfriendly than the official app. I've added the channels I subscribed for to my Kodi favorites to have quick access. Hope you can fix the login issue too. Thanks for now.

Agreed, it would be nice to have the login feature fix and have acess to load reccomendations from currently playing song; generating addidtional playlist. But for now @ukigumo did a fantastic job getting the essentials working at least. So hats off to him.

The errors I'm getting from trying to login with my credentials are along the lines of not being authorized to do it, so I don't know if the client id/secret is bad, if they deprecated the username/password style login in favor of just oauth, or if it's something else entirely.  Either way I'm not sure how much there is to do on that front, unless there's a way to switch the logging in piece to use oauth. I can take look at it if anyone has any examples of other plugins using oauth.

I'm going to poke around to see if I can do anything with building a playlist off of a track, or at least getting related tracks. This functionality seems undocumented in their api at the moment.

Well, at least for now the "Search" seems to work and as long as I can find my username and play my likes...
So again, thank you very much!

Hi everyone. I’m brand new to Kodi and found my way to this forum after experiencing the same issues with the SoundCloud add on in Kodi. If someone could help me install/implement ukigumo’s SoundCloud fix with some basic, noob-friendly instructions I would be super appreciative. Thanks.

Dont know how newb friendly this answer is:

1.) Download and unpack https://github.com/ukigumoh/plugin.audio...master.zip - this should give you a new directory "plugin.audio.soundcloud-master"
2.) Have SSH enabled on you kodi installation
3.) Use a client such as Filezilla (https://filezilla-project.org/) to connect to your kodi device (In server manager create a new connection with you device's ip address, protocol sftp, user "root", password "libreelec")
4.) On the remote connection navigate to /storage/.kodi/addons/
5.) On the remote connection rename the existing directory plugin.audio.soundcloud to plugin.audio.soundcloud--backup
6.) Upload the directory plugin.audio.soundcloud-master that you unpacked in step 1 to your kodi device (there you should still be in /storage/.kodi/addons/)
7.) On the remote connection rename plugin.audio.soundcloud-master to plugin.audio.soundcloud
8.) Restart kodi and enjoy

As usual all the disclaimers for free advice and installing unknown software from the internetz do apply. (:

Have it worked for you? I still receive "invalid_grant" error.

On main Soundcloud addon thread ( https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=206635 ) they assume that it's problem with add developer registration - original author is unavailable, new one has changed addon but needs new API key but Soundcloud has temporarily closed ( http://soundcloud.com/you/apps/new )
