v18 LibreELEC Testbuilds for x86_64 (Kodi 18.0)
I've upgraded from #602 to #609 and now I lost access to my NFS shares. There shares are only enumerated as folders, but the files inside are inaccessible. Debug log is inconclusive, just says that mount failed. I downgraded to #602 again but access is not restored. This leads me to believe, this may be script or .ini related. Any ideas?
I have exactly the same issue on an Amlogic device with CoreElec after upgrading from 8.90.2 to 8.90.3. Downgrading didn't help either.
I tried on yet another machine with Windows nightly from 08.06.2018 and still have access there. Will try with 09.06.2018 now.

I had used the ova available for 8.1.2 which opens and runs perfectly. I then dropped in the latest nightly release from today... It reboots and updates fine, just no text anywhere.

Can you change your virtual hardware version to 12: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1010675

Hello @Milhouse,

i am trying to run your build on VMWare Workstation 14 Player.

Your solution does not work. I switched to virtrual hardware version 12 but i still get a black screen, only the mousecursor views.

Any other suggestions? :/

False alarm, sorry for this. I'm using Hanewin NFS server and the documetion on blocksize is misleading. It says 1460 bytes is the maximum where packets are not fragmented, so I set 1460 hoping to improve network performance. Windows Kodi didn't care about this but it seems Linux Kodi was not able to negatiate a common blocksize with the server.

I'm not sure, but we do plan to update the vmware tools shortly. In the meantime do you know the last version that does work?

The stable build LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-8.2.5 works.

I have tried  #606 and #607, both shows after booting a black screen.

From #526 to #602 are working. Since #603 i get a black screen with the mouse cursor. After ca. 20 sec the system reboots.

I think it is the mesa update. I have tried to change virtual hardware to version 14 without success.

OK thanks we're looking into it, but don't have an ETA on a fix yet - it may require an update from vmware for their driver to support the latest xorg/mesa, and there will be a vmware driver bump in tonight's #0609 build (2-3 hours from now) but I don't know if that's the fix you need, try it and let us know.

Hello Milhouse,

ist it possible for you to give some support to sky42?

I've replied with some suggestions, but diagnosing faults in a build/kernel I'm not familiar with on hardware I don't have and there are no diagnostic logs is not easy...

Sometimes the best/only option is to create a baseline without any modifications (ie. LE9 master, which should be working) and then add changes one at a time until something breaks - incredibly slow and tedious, particularly when debugging hardware you don't have.

@YinYang many people don't have the time to work with zipped logs - for instance they might be reading your post while commuting and using their phone etc., so please use pastebin sites where possible as this means your logs are much more accessible.
I sent you the logs again after your instructions!
In your above kodi log, it gets clear the kernel driver also only gets 1280 or the 1440 mode - there is nothing kodi can do about that. Find the latest build where it worked and then a bug can be filed with the kernel. Though: I am really wondering that such an issue occurs on a very old lts kernel. Make sure to reset your TV settings / change HDMI cable, just to be sure.
Good morning @fritsch So I can rule out that it is because of my TV settings because I know someone else in the Kodinerds.net forum with the same problem and similar hardware.

Does that mean that I can not reasonably use the current Kodi with my quite new hardware because of new kernels? I think that's a pity because I have bought extra this mini pc to be safe for the future. I'll probably have to disconnect from it and buy me a Odroid c2 where there are hopefully fewer problems.

It has zero / nothing to do with kodi. Kodi gets the resolution from the available modes of the Linux kernel ... in numbers: 0 to do with kodi. Use a recent kernel and try again.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
I thought the current kernel is always in Milhouse's v18 - LibreELEC test builds for x86_64 (Kodi 18.0)? How can I update my kernel?

You need to nicely ask if there perhaps exists a build with kernel 4.17 - alternatively you can follow my VAAPI howto here in the forum and test it.

Can you give me: DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --verbose | pastebinit as well as dmesg | pastebinit

where do I find the desired entries? I'll give it to you then.

Connect via ssh (putty) and enter them, one after each other. It will give you two URLs
