XBOX H265 4k very Slow
#76
Kodi just got update for Xbox (seems like the official 18 version :-) )...
4k x265 10 bit run great ! What's happened? Is it Kodi fix, Xbox fix , is it downscaled to 1080 or it's 4k?

Well, that's too bad, I was forced to switch to the Apple TV 4K long ago.

we found a workaround, it's true UHD

Well the Kodi Xbox team should be applauded for the breakthrough! A big thank you from me!

Big thanks from my side too!

I was very happy when I saw that my XBOX X can finally play movies from my UHD collection. However, I have a bit mixed results in testings. About 50% of my movies are still not watchable as they are very slow, stuttering etc. Situation with those movies is a bit better than before but still not satisfying. Other 50% work perfect.

I can watch all those movies on my Sony Android TV  without any issues. Both XBOX and TV are running Kodi 18.1 and source for both is the same, NFS share - all 3 devices on a same 1GB switch.

Interestingly enough, there are 2 movies whish are unwatchabe on my TV but in XBOX plays them without any issues.

If this is interresting for developers, I could check information (bitrate etc) about all files that I tested.

without a log file we can't figure out why it happens.

Hi,

Sorry, I thought that this happens to everybody.

Log is here - https://paste.kodi.tv/lamaqifizi

What is logged - I started 2 movies which do not work and one which works  - around 15 seconds of each film, I hope that this is enough

What I saw is that for movies which work, CPU is 7-8% and stable 50 FPS
For movies which don't work, CPU is fix to 50% and FPS is between 4 and 15

unfortunatelly, but it's a driver issue. the driver doesn't support decoder for 3840x2176 video size (where 3840x2176 coded dimesion)
see in the log:
cpp:
NOTICE: DXVA::CDXVAContext::GetConfig: no decoder configuration possible for 3840x2176 (104).

the last video has 3840x1608 dimension and it works.

P.S. commonly UHD video is coded with 3840x2160 dimension.

Thank you for clarification.

So this is limitation only on XBOX/UWP?  Like I wrote before, all movies (except one) are working without issues on my Sony Android TV with Kodi 18.1.

it's an issue of XBOX virtual driver

So there will be no workaround for this?

After all, it seems that XBOX will not be my media center of choice   Sad
