Does not work for me. Movie titles are replaced by the original movie name. "Replace file names with library titles" selection in either position does not change anything.
@Jutzi, if you put the 3D movies in a separate folder ("3D" as example) then you can easily find them using the browse folder option (files).
I put everything as movie in separate folders on storage;

HD-Movie\IMDBname (year)\IMDBname
HDR-Movie\IMDBname (year)\IMDBname
3D\IMDBname (year)\IMDBname
Etc.

Join all those folders as Movie so that they all popup under "Movies". But when I only want to see my 3D collection I use the folder option and select the 3D folder. Then only the 3D collection is shown.

People really need to follow a very simple file naming and sorting convention.

All movie files should be in folders with the same name like this -  "Title (Year) Kodi Naming Convention Tags"

There are various file naming convention tags that can be added and Kodi will identify those tags for your media. ex. Bluray3D, Atmos etc.

My library is quick and easy to navigate. As it currently spans 15 8TB hard drives just for movies alone, each drive has a main folder for the alphabetical "shelf" contained therein. In that main folder each movie has it's own folder and those folders contain the movie file, trailer file, all artwork, nfo file and often another sub-folder for Extras which then contains any extra trailers, featurettes etc that I might want to collect.

Because of Kodi's built-in features and further skinning customization like adding proper aspect ratio I have no issues knowing what my media is or finding it.

If Kodi supported file info tags on all screens rather than just some, my folder and file names would be even more simplified.

I want to get Kodi MVC 3D working under Ubuntu (18.04LTS). I have a Kodlix GN41 that currently boots both Win10 and Ubuntu. I have a library of 100's of ISO movies. PowerDVD 16 runs on the Win10 side and 3D movies play just fine. However, I want to run the Kodlix under Ubuntu so I need a 3D media player that works there. Kodi should fit that ticket, I just need to find a version that will work. The Kodlix hardware is a quad core Gemini Lake Celeron (GN4100) with an Intel 600 UHD graphics processor. The HDMI port is 1.4.

First question would be, "Is it possible"? And the next would be, "How do I go about building the special Kodi MVC version for Linux and what special settings/configurations, if any, need to be set in the Ubuntu graphics environment to support 3D"?

Thanks for any help,

Hi Scott,

I think the Windows build uses a fork which used Windows specific work from the Intel Media codec (This is why it never mainlined). Happy to be corrected but I don't think the main ingredient exists for Linux.

It is but I think information has come to light since that it is an all HDMI 2.0 chain that causes the problem. When I originally tested this everyone was saying it was the HDMI 2.0 ports which broke 3D but it has since started to look like an all HDMI 2.0 chain is the problem; just to confirm I'm using the HDMI 2.0 port but my TV and Amp are HDMI 1.4/1.3.

@Easy4Breezy, why would you choose for the separate cable connection? Your TV is max 1080p and doesn't support HDR, so there is no real reason to use two HDMI outputs, or is there and I'm missing something?

Trying to work out some details I'm not clear on. I have the option to pick-up a cheap Lenovo Thinkcenter with an Intel i5-4590 processor and 8GB RAM. It's downside is it's not SFF, the MATX board looks standard size but the PSU has proprietary connectors. The big concern for me though is the I/O. It has dual Displayport but no HDMI.

Does this fork of MVC 3D Kodi 18.2 Leia work with lossless audio and full 3D through a DP to HDMI cable?

Conversely I can use this old Del Optiplex 390 that can't do lossless audio or 3D but it also seems to have an issue with video artifacts. Might that be a RAM upgrade as it's only got 4GB? I do have an Nvidia low profile videocard I could put into it but it also only has DP and of course isn't going to give me 3D. To the best of my knowledge there are no low profile (cheap) video cards that can kick butt with full lossless audio and 3D, correct?

Scratching most of what I put above, I'm curious if anyone has tried a Dell OptiPlex 3020 i3-4160 machine?

I know my buddy's set-up, a full blown custom HTPC build, has an i3-4160 CPU and it does full lossless/Atmos audio with full MVC 3D. D'oh shouild have done more research the Optiplex 3020 oly has displayport.

@K0D1User1138, the Haswell Core CPU's (i3, i5, etc.), all support HD-Audio and the Haswell's that I've tested through an DP port (using an DP>HDMI converter), supported HD-audio also.

HD Audio, cool, but does MVC 3D work as well?

I have a few buying options but none are easy enough that I can bring them home, test them and simply return them if they don't work. IF DP to HDMI will do 3D then I'm sold.

@K0D1User1138, yes, it can. But in my opinion the 3D image quality from the Haswell iGP is not as great as that from a 7th generation Kaby Lake Core CPU. I compared them side by side. It's good, but not as good as it can get Wink

Thanks for the info. For my 72 year old father the Haswell chip will suffice. Currently that is what ir running my friend's home theater with a 108" screen and we've not had any complaints when watching movies. He will likely upgrade in the future by for now my father will be able to utilize my backup servers in his house after the old Raspberry Pi2B failed to keep up.

Yes that's true, but we also have an HDR TV without 3D and sometimes i watch movies on this TV. It's also an AV with HDMI 1.4, so a similiar setup.
But i found out what you meant, it's working fine now Smile

Except that i can't get mvc3d to work with the newest kodi build and Windows 10 1809, it only works up to Windows 10 1703 and the old build.

Thanks Krobar. That makes sense. I was thinking that since the Android based media players (eg - Zidoo) could do 3D and being Android is based on the Linux kernel, there might be hope. I now coming to the conclusion that the Android boxes are all based on ARM chipsets that have their own proprietary graphic drivers and there are no Android/Linux drivers for Intel based chipset(s).
