Don't assume the mass marketed, new, Chinese sourced Android S922X or S905X2/Y2 devices will be supported this time around by CoreELEC.

If box vendors are unwilling to provide developer team sample devices and provide after sales support to those developer then limited CE resources will Not be provided to those vendors devices.

Beelink have already been approached and have been unwilling to provide the necessary developer devices.
Nor should developers have to go chasing vendors if those vendors want CE Kodi support.
Email sent to Beelink, requesting a GT-King be sent to the devs at CoreELEC...........

Things are moving in the right direction for GT-King getting CoreElec support, but it will take some more time, as only 60 boxes were manufactured so far...

You would think they'd want to get CE support on these boxes as it provides another market for them.  I don't know though, maybe they don't care.

I almost bought a Chinese Android box when I first started looking into Kodi, cheap way to try it, but I quickly got away from that idea.  General purpose SBC seems the best way to go with Kodi on Linux.

Craig - read the thread on the CoreELEC forum.  You're misinformed.
Edit: Reading that thread it looks to me as if the problem isn't on Beelink's end.

Yeah, new post there.  TBH, I'm on CE's side with that one.

Has anyone tried Hi10p (h264 10bit) anime with the N2? It's the only thing missing from my Vero4k+, and it comprises a decent-sized chunk of my library.

@wrxtasy How would you say the N2 compares with the RK3399 device(s), in terms of UI responsiveness?

I have an N2 and will give it a go if you can supply a link to a sample

H264 Hi10P is not hardware supported on N2, it will use software decoding; so I guess 720p is max you can expect...

Hi10: how many ReFrames?
If <= 12 -- then there may be hope for 4K +

Thanks, I appreciate it. I don't have anything handy here at work, but I'll throw something on dropbox etc when I get home.

Thanks, I had hoped the 922 chipset would be enough to tackle 1080p Hi10P, but I guess I may still need to keep that Chromebox around still.

That's great to hear, Sam! Offhand I'm not sure on the mediainfo for the files I have, but I'll check some tonight to see if they're above or below 12. Love the 4k+ btw!

The AML S922X Chipset in the N2 with it's pretty powerful 6 core CPU package can Software decode 1080p Hi10p Anime with no issues.
The CPU package it has would be the second most powerful ARM one I have seen for a media player, after the Apple TV 4K.

I'm even finding the ARM G51 GPU has some sort of Anti-Aliasing picture processing to remove Jaggies from Animation type video when Hardware decoding.
Excluding DolbyVision, to my eyes, It's even better output quality than the picture output class leader the Apple TV 4K, which surprised me.

Both are pretty snappy, when you use a Wireless remote.

Here's a sample file if you have time to try it out. Thanks again! https://gofile.io/?c=IP6F3j (expires 2019-06-05)

Checked, and the number of ref frames varies -- sometimes 8, and sometimes 16. Still looking forward to see what my 4k+ will be able to do with the 8 ref frames videos though!

Thanks! As I'm in a primarily Apple ecosystem now, I'd have strongly considered the ATV4k, but needed Kodi's abilities beyond MrMC. Primarily because I use the fantastic "Best of NHK" addon by @misty01 daily. And Kodi's retrogaming capabilities has my interest very strongly piqued. Smile
Noted on the advice to use a good remote. I primarily use a wireless / bluetooth keyboard, but I'm also quite satisfied with the Vero remote when the keyboard is out of reach.

Ah sorry about that. Never used that file hoster before. Hopefully this one works better (ie: at all).

Yep that worked, playback was flawless, no video or audio problems that I could see, very smooth panning.
