Of course there will be.
I doubt anything will rival the ultimate picture quality, or video output options you would get from a (discontinued) Oppo 203 or 205 4K HDR DV Bluray Player.
But the question is how much do you want to pay ?

But in that case, the "ultimate picture quality" is achieved thanks to additional software implementation by OPPO or whatever hardware manufacturer.
I know that if I buy the Panasonic BP-UB9000 the picture quality will be stunning because of their HCX Processor and their HDR Optimizer, but that's because of additional implementations by Panasonic, not because of a flaw in the N2 am I wrong?

If I disabled every additional image processing option in the BD player, then I would get the same picture as the N2, or am I missing something?

For the price paid I think it will be hard to exceed the picture output quality the new ARM Mali G-52 - N2 / AML S922X chipset currently outputs - provided the supporting Software is up to speed outputting complete 4K HDR10 Metadata (looks like it is from @wesk05 's CE tests).

It would be interesting to compare picture quality and HDR output metadata with the Amazon FireTV Stick 4K as well. However no HD audio passthrough with that one.

Truth be told, I can't even tell the difference between my Oppo 203 and madvr setups.. That is, 4K HDR10 on either device.

What GPU card do you use for madVR ?

Nvidia cards seem to work fine. Used to run a GTX 1080 which has since been replaced by the RTX 2080 Ti (can get away with much lower specced cards). No complaints other than Windows not being 100% reliable from time to time. madvr in conjunction with mpc player will handle auto refresh rate switching, 10 bit HDR and HD audio passthrough. Embedded into Kodi via playercorefactory.xml

What's great about Windows is the ability to connect your entire gaming library with Kodi. The Big Box plugin seamlessly connects to Kodi and goes far beyond its very limited gaming capabilities. Everything is scraped into your library from retro classics to modern games and playable with the click of a button.

Do you only need a player for your Blu-Ray rips, which can play 4K HDR files while correctly passing through MaxCLL/MaxFALL metadata and passing through the audio track, be it Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, to your AVR? Then at the moment there's nothing better than the N2.
Do you also need any streaming service like Netflix or Amazon Prime video? Then get something else (or both the N2 and something else).

Is libbluray supported on N2?
Also since it supports HDR pass trough do you know if it works for uhd blurays menus?

Also Odroid has a few different version C1, C2 etc. The N2 is the only one capable of HDR output?

Yes - the N2 is the only ODroid based on an AMLogic chip that fully supports HDR output. (The C2 will decode HEVC 10-bit UHD HDR video, but is limited to an 8-bit output path and can't correctly signal Rec 2020 and HDR EOTFs, so it's handled as if it is Rec 709 SDR and will look badly washed out)

Hello!

Does the Fire TV Stick 4K (with KODI) and the Vero have proper HDR->SDR conversion feature?

I'm almost pretty sure that Amlogic + LE or CE can't do any HDR->SDR conversion, right? So this won't neither change for the new S922X chipest devices?

Not sure about the FireTV Stick 4K..

Any of the HDR capable AML S905X, S905D, S922, A311D chipset devices running any sort of OS can do HDR -> SDR mapping at the Linux Kernel level.

But color and brightness outputs will not be 100% correct, you really need specialist software, like MadVR and tailored display mapping as described in this https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2860458

And you also have to decide what type of HDR->SDR (and Rec 2020 to Rec 709 if that is also an issue) conversion you want to use - Scene Light vs Display Light and whether you aim for Constant Hue gamut conversion or not.

I own a LG 55C7 oled tv and a Marantz + Focal audio setup.
It's important for me to have a mediaplayer that supports Dolby TrueHD or DTS HDMA and great UHD + HDR picture quality with HDR, HLG and Dolby Vision. At first I thought I should buy an Apple TV 4k, but with MRMC not supporting skins or add-ons, that is a no go.
Shield still has issues and doesn't do DV. I own 2 mediaplayers right now: Eminent EM7680 which works fine, but I cannot get a shared mysql db to work and as far as I know it doesn't do DV eighter. Other box I own is a Minix Neo U9-H, but if I read it correct, it again can't do Dolby Vision.

So what is left?

Virtually nothing.

There might be hardware available that is DolbyVision capable...
But there is no Kodi software available to playback dual layer DV Blu-ray Rips.

DV Blu-ray’s have separate DV metadata files that no Kodi media player software can currently process.

This closest you will get to DV Blu-ray ISO Rips playback is an an Oppo (cloned) Media device that has no Optical drive:

@wrxtasy And that's bloody expensive too...

So, perhaps I mustn't want DV then... I really had high hopes for the Apple TV 4k, but with MrMC not supporting add-ons, and normal Kodi seems to not work all the time, it isn't really an option I guess.
The Shield still has issues, Windows HTPC's are far too expensive and other boxes still having problems too. I'm a bit confused as to what to buy next. Return to my U9-H perhaps.

As far as I've read Zodoo Z9S is pretty polished by now, I guess they've fixed both the cadence, the banding and the HDR meta passthrough issues. So my guess is that's the most "close to perfect" player on the market at the moment. But not sure if it's worth to change from U9-H, if that doesn't have any reliability problems.

The developers of MrMC have promised to look after the possibility of DV to work with local playback on ATV 4K, but I guess (by the time have passed by), they will never realize that.  As far as the Dolby licencing policy goes, I don't think that it will be available anytime soon on any (even the upcoming generation) of the media players, nor on PC. (If not else that the developer of MadVR would despite make it work somehow.)

Thanks for clearing that up about DV. So Apple TV 4k with DV is great, but it not supporting addons via MrMC is not so great (I really want my favorite skin on all my devices)
I will look into Zodoo and compare it with my Minix.

Back to this: I didn't seen actually the other options (like Zidoo), but the Q10 Pro can do a really good and almost seamless HDR->SDR conversion, it works fine and with decent PQ on my FHD TV. I turning back to my previous question, that will (can) it be any better with those new Amlogic chipsets with Core Elec anytime? Or is this such a hardware or Linux kerner limitation, that couldn't be acceptably resolved?
