That is correct, or a buggy Dolby Audio licence implementation. Such DD+ Netflix App audio downmixing works fine on FireTV and Apple TV devices.

Yes
Quote:Also I cannot seem to figure out can anything at all be streamed at 1080p in either netflix app or kodi netflix addon? Or im locked to 580p?

Netflix App on approved Netflix media players / TV's = 1080p or 4K all the time.

Kodi Leia Netflix App = 1080p or 4K but only with Netflix Original Content, everything else will be Max. 960x540p

Huh?
So even on shield, with stuff thats on netflix which arent "originals", you cant watch in 1080p?

i thought on  shield, the kodi netflix addon would do always 1080p or evven 4k for al stuff?

Unless the Shield has got something no other Android - Google Certified, Widevine L1 equipped & HDCP 1.x/2.2 capable device has - well hidden - under the hood.
Then yes - 960x540p is the Max resolution for streaming content that is not- Netflix Originals, when using the Kodi Netflix Addon.

A simple test is "The Meg" movie. This restriction seems to mainly affect movies.

Yes

Thank you for the answer.

However are you completely sure Mi Box + Kodi  can transcode DD+5.1 to DD5.1 Huh

I have tried many many different combinations of kodi and mi box settings, but all i get with (DD+5.1) is 2 channel LPCM on my old reciever.

However DTS5.1 and DD5.1 seems to work perfect.
But DD+5.1 does not. I have tried with many different DD+ files, so this is not specific for netflix content or netflix plugin. However as all netflix sound tracks are DD+, I would really like to get kodi to work in this regard.

In kodi I have tried to set audio to 5.1 channels.
Sound to "best match" and "optimized". No difference.
I have removed check mark for E-AC3 capable reciever, but enabled for AC3(DD) and DTS.
I have frame rate swithing enabled, and I see that the frame rate changes to 24Hz when playing movies.

And as I said, DTS and AC3 is working perfectly. Just not DD+5.1 to DD5.1  conversion.

I have the latest Oreo firmware v25xx.
Also Kodi is latest version v18.3.

What on earth am I missing here?
Cannot figure it out.

For anyone else reading this and my previous post, apparently you have to set audio channels to 2.0, and then you can transcode DD+ to DD

Not exactly. Devices with proper licences like Shield (pre-Pie), Mibox, FTV Stick 4k will stream at max available resolution with hw acceleration. 1080p for non Netflix originals (some are 720p like Jurassic Park III).

"For those of you who are interested, here’s a tip on the command line to manage the passthrough on the Mi Box S:

Enable developer options

adb connect <IP Mi box>: 5555
adb shell settings put global digital_sound 1
adb shell settings put global encoded_surround_output 2

encoded_surround_output 0 = auto (random behavior)
encoded_surround_output 1 = pcm
encoded_surround_output 2 = always

I recommend option 2 (always)"

Has someone tried that? Did it work?

OK finally worked out what is going on with the Kodi Netflix Addon on Mi Box:

As soon as you enable - in VideoPlayer - Inputstream.adaptive Addon - Ignore HDCP Status

Then non Netflix content, like "The Meg" or "The Shallows" movies will also playback in 1080p Wink

SDR: 4k24 / 4:2:0 / 8-bit Rec709 Convert to 4k24 / 4:4:4 / 8-bit Rec709

HDR: 10-bit Rec2020 Convert to 4k24 / 4:2:2 / 12-bit Rec2020

I have Epson 5040ub and it has a bandwidth limitation of 10 Gbps. Some blu-ray (Phillips, Panasonic), xbox one s/x, apple tv 4k does that.

I could manually switch mi box as SDR -> HDR and resolution to 4k24 10 bit color but it seems like mi box is then doing a poor job of converting all signals to HDR and upscaling to 4k24. Can anybody confirm?

Ideally it should do the following
• 1080/720 signal -> leave it as it is
• 4k signal non HDR -> convert the signal to 4k24 / 4:4:4 / 8-bit Rec 709 which the Epson supports
• HDR movies with Rec 2020 color -> convert to 4k24 / 4:2:2 / 12-bit Rec2020 which the Epson supports

Hi folks,

I just signed up to chat about this device.
Mine is connected to a garbage entry tier HiSense TV (H43B7100) via the offical HDMi cable and
in the system settings for resolution 2160p60 I can only choose either
  1. YCbCr 420 10bit
  2. YCbCr 444 8bit
  3. RGB 8bit
Shouldn't YCbCr 444 10bit and RGB 10bit be available if HDMI2.0 were working?
Is there any way I can check if it is connected in HDMI 1.4 or HDMI2.0 mode?

Thank you very much

No - not at 2160p60, only at 2160p30 and below

The HDMI 2.0 spec doesn't support RGB or YCbCr 4:4:4 at more than 8 bit for 2160p50 and above resolution+frame rates.  RGB and YCbCr 4:4:4 10-bit and above are only supported at 2160p30 and below in the HDMI 2.0 spec because of bandwidth limits.

This is why 2160p50/59.94/60 HDR content has to be output in  either YCbCr 4:2:0 10-bit or above, or YCbCr 4:2:2 12-bit (There is no 4:2:2 10-bit support in HDMI 2.0 either, 10-bit content will be padded to 12-bit if output YCbCr 4:2:2)

4:2:0 10-bit 2160p60 is the lowest bandwidth 2160p60 HDR-compatible mode - and some displays only support this flavour of HDR in 2160p60.  On some TVs and AVRs you have to specifically enable 4:2:2 support at 2160p50 and above, where it may be called 'Enhanced HDR' or similar (both my Denon AVR and my Sony UHD TV need this mode enabled), and in the case of some TVs, only some HDMI inputs on your TV will support it (on my TV it's HDMI 2 and HDMI 3 that are capable of it, whereas HDMI 1 and HDMI 4 are limited to 4:2:0-only for HDR)

Oh okay, thank you
Then is my math off here when I calculate "Full colour" (YCbCr 4:4:4 or RGB) should be 15Gigabit/s

That's a great cheat sheet @wrxtasy, helped me a great deal.

Btw, do you know if there are currently any workarounds for the Kodi Auto Resolution switching NOT working properly bug? I believe you said earlier in the thread that it's a Xiaomi bug, just wondering if there is a known command line workaround to fix it?

Hey guys, I have tried as suggested earlier in this topic to go back to an old version of tvheadend live client in order to force the use of MediaPlayer to properly deinterlace 1080i feeds but it seems like this isn’t working anymore on the latest version of AndroidTV. Anyone has a clue of how to bring it back? I’ve tried all players available so far via ProgTV and none of them can deinterlace to a double frame rate Sad

Hey Mi Box Users,

i know - this is not the Netflix Support Forum but here is the technicality expertise!

Since many Months, every Day the Netflix App on my Mi Box (no "S" Model) won't start playing a Movie and the Error tvq-pm-100 (5.6.0) is shown.
Then i have to restart the Movie 3 times (each time same Error), after the third trial the Movie is played.

What i have tried:
- Clean Netflix App Cache and App Data
- Use another HDMI Cable
- Use another HDMI Port on my TV

Any ideas what i could do?

PS. My Box runs at 4k 60Hz.

Thank you! Greetings from Germany.
