Hi, does Kodi DSPlayer work by itself, portable/can be used as a standalone media player? Is there a gui interface?

There is a GUI interface. It looks identical to a regular Kodi installation, so it can be installed as a portable installation.

The ability to create add-ons with this type of support already exists, but I don't think alternative video renderers are possible. And that add-on would have to be developed from scratch.

Something like this: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=339540

Video Renderers perhaps not. But to add further Shaders/Filters (denoise, sharpen, deblock, chroma,...) would be a good start.
Perhaps someone knows a good addon dev here and could ask him to build an addon. I would also donate some money.

Apparently it is possible.

Not an easy task, though.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

Hey guys,

I am wondering if someone can help me out,  im using KodiDS on my 2:37 CIH projector setup. I am zooming and cropping, with 16:9 movies that i zoom and crop the subtitles are right on the edge of the screen, I have tried raising them in video calibration and messed around in the xysubfilter by playing with the margins and that has also been unsuccesful.

Anyone have this issue or know a work around that could help me out?

Cheers

Did you try using DXVA2 copy-back video decoding in LAV Video and using the subtitles option under zoom control in madVR? Black bar detection only works with copy-back decoding.

It works by itself, can be installed as a portable installation and has its own player UI.

Why are you zooming and cropping 16:9 movies?

Maybe the renderer doesn't expect you to lose any of the 16:9 image. Zooming is supposed to be reserved for 21:9 content.

Did you look at the subtitle placement options in XySubFilter?

Or try creating a profile group under madVR's zoom control for 16:9 sources that uses the zoom big black bars/zoom small black bars options? Maybe zoom control will be able to better manage the subtitles?
