Sooo, is it "safe" to go for any version above #1012 if you are sticking to standard add-ons like Global Search and the TVDB and TMDB scrapers? Sorry to ask that kind of question but even after reading the Kodi news article from November 16th I'm not a 100% sure whether to expect working Python 3 support from every add-on in the Kodi repository or not. Thanks in advance for a short reply.

Not every add-on in the Kodi 19 repository is currently Python3 compatible, that's a situation that will improve over time.

And because of that, there's no point thinking old Python2-based Kodi 19 builds (like #1012) will continue working as they will start having problems once Kodi 19 add-ons update with a version that supports only Python3, meaning old Python2-based Kodi 19 builds will become increasingly broken over time.

There's no guarantee or requirement that Kodi 19 add-ons should support both Python2 and Python3 (which requires more coding effort/testing and is the choice of the individual developer) - the only requirement for Kodi 19 add-ons is that Python3 must be supported, and dropping Python2 support entirely results in more efficient add-on code so this is a route I would expect many add-on developers to choose particularly if they have no further plans to update their add-on for Kodi 18.

So, even though the Kodi 19 repository isn't yet 100% Python3 compatible, when it comes to Kodi 19 builds and sticking or twisting on Python 2 or 3, the only option now is "twist" (unless you stick with #1012 and unplug the internet).

If a Kodi 19 add-on doesn't work with Python3 then report it to the maintainer so that it can be addressed ASAP.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll update and find out then now that reverting to an earlier version should not be a problem considering the updated LibreELEC settings addon.

Now that I think of it there are 5 add-on updates pending on my #1012 build.  Could that be related to the missing Python 3 of my build or do these kind of checks not exist?

Kodi 19 with Python3 won't install or update add-ons unless the new version supports xbmc.python 3.0.0 so if you're on a Python2 version of Kodi 19 and have pending add-on updates it could be that they're Python3 add-on updates which won't install until you update to a Kodi 19 build that supports Python 3. This might prevent #1012 installing Python3 updates, it all depends on how the add-on is configured.

Are these builds just to install and run as-is between the weekly builds?
I'm interested in the newer Linux versions, but also like to install most of your nightlies. I thought at first that the newer Linux versions might stay in place, but installing a nightly reverts back to the older Linux version on the nightly.

Thanks for all your work on the project.

The "weekly" kernal builds are for people to test new kernels and spot/report problems early. It also gives users with bleeding edge CPU/GPU hardware a chance to test LibreELEC when older kernels may not support their hardware. They also serve as a useful tool to help bisect issues that may be spotted only after the kernel is released.

You were right. I took a look yesterday and the updater reports missing Python 3 support. Thanks again for your replies and your ongoing efforts.

Good day @millhouse

Starting with build #1029 up through latest (#1120), I've been experiencing the multiple Remote clicks just like Malocher from your Raspberry Pi V19 build thread (https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2900548).  Falling back to #1028 works.  I've tried a smattering of builds between #1029-#1120 and all the ones that I've used had reproduced the issue.

Fresh install #1120 build debug log which reproduces the issue:
http://ix.io/22sR

I'm using an Ortek IR receiver (VRC-1100) along with a Harmony 650 remote.

Regards,
Jake

That's strange as I am also using an Ortek VRC-1100 IR receiver, although I'm using a Harmony One remote. I'm not seeing any unusual behaviour, but maybe @HiassofT has an idea.

The "--device" option has been dropped from ir-keytable 1.18.0 which means ir-keytable can no longer be used to configure the repeat/delay settings of non-rc input devices (i.e. keyboards and RF or other remote receivers which present themselves to the system as a keyboard like the Ortek/Hama one).

This is also the reason for the ir-keytable errors in the journal log.

For LE this means we need to use a different tool to configure repeat/delay settings of those keyboard-like remotes as https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.t...peat.rules will no longer work.

I did a quick test here (on RPi4) with the Hama / Ortek IR receiver and remote and it worked fine - though with evtest I clearly saw that input events repeated after 250ms (default for keyboards).

If you use a Harmony remote make sure you disable the button repeat setting in the Harmony configuration - the previous longer repeat delay (500ms instead of 250ms) has probably masked that but now it'll show up - when you quickly press a button on your Harmony remote it'll keep sending the "button pressed" signals for a longer time than you held the button and Linux/Kodi will now react on these.

so long,

Hias
