Hi. Since I upgraded to Kodi 18.4(from 16 I think) so doesn’t upnp/dlna work with rar files. I have  an wdtvlive in my bedroom and it’s always been working fine watching movies, and tv shows on my wdtvlive from my computer with Kodi installed until the upgrade. I can still see folders and file names but when trying to play the file I get the message “Can’t play this video format”. I can play files that I’ve unrar but all of my libraries are rar material. I’ve added rar support to Kodi so I can see rar movies on Kodi itself.
is there a fix to this or do I have to downgrade?

I had the same problem. Try Kodi 18.5 and try "archive support" instead of "RAR archive support"

Upgraded to 18.5. With archive support Kodi crashes(on the computer) when I try to play a movie. Switched back to rar archive support and Kodi stops crashing.
I still have the same problem on my wdtvlive.

For me, in Kodi 18 - 18.4 Playing Files with my Samsung TV was not working. vfs.rar and vfs.libarchive had different errors. Last Month there was a Nightly and then it worked, but only with the vfs.libarchive. Now seems the fix is already integrated in the Kodi 18.5.

Of course its still not the best solution, because now i have problems when i play files local on my PC. Kodi crashes after stopping the playback with vfs.libarchive, while vfs.rar is working fine.

I’ve installed universal media server. Haven’t had the time to do some real testing but I did test playing rar videos on my wdtvlive and it works. Too bad I must have both Kodi and ums installed.
