Beta Advanced Emulator Launcher - Multi-emulator frontend for Kodi
Sorry to bother again, but I'm getting pop-under problems when launching browsers again. Originally this happened with just Firefox, but it's now happening with Chrome as well. I cannot get either browser to consistently pop up over Kodi and stay focused over Kodi. On launch the browser will appear. Then both programs juggle back and forth faster than I can see and Kodi pops up over the browser.

Things I've tried:
- I run launcher4kodi and have tried the setting "disable focus permanently" assuming that Kodi regularly tries to do this.
- I tried changing the launcher setting to "toggle Kodi into Windowed mode". In the brief flash during launch it appears that kodi turns into a small window, but then returns to fullscreen in less than a second.
- I tried changing to non-blocking launcher and back with no change in behavior.
- This behavior happens with both Chrome and Firefox. I've tried Opera which *seems* so far to behave, taking focus as expected on launch. However, I can't keep using it as several websites I need to use have started explicitly warning me that Opera isn't supported (which is BS, but I can't do anything about that).

One oddity I've noticed is that when using Alt-Tab to get the browser back, is that alt-tabbing once highlights Kodi. Alt-tabbing twice takes me to the browser. One thought is that the browser might have functional focus, but Kodi for some reason visually appears on top of the browser.

I don't know if a log is useful, but here's what I have. The actions taken: launcher4kodi is running with 'disable focus'. I start Kodi and immediately try to launch the browser, replicating the focus problem. I then navigate over to the upload add-on and have it send the log.

http://paste.kodi.tv/luranexulu

I'm reluctantly ok being told it's just a mysterious problem and that I'm stretching the use case of AEL pretty far.

Much later edit: the problem appears to be transient. It isn't occurring this morning.

launcher4kodi is known to cause problems with AEL and other launcher addons like RCB and IARL. The reason is that launcher4kodi tries to keep Kodi always focused. When the behavior seems to be random is typically a race condition: launcher4kodi was not designed to support launched apps from Kodi and tries to keep Kodi on top, but if the launched application takes a few more ms to launch then it works, etc. If you want to use AEL to launch external apps then you should stop using launcher4kodi I'm afraid. Also, playing with the setting "After/before launch delay (ms)" may help. Try to reduce the time or increase it a lot.

Chiming in on the Lunchbox and other front-ends in relation to AEL, as someone already said besides the management function the main thing about these front ends is their bling/customizability . The issue with AEL is that theme support is very spotty, is there a recent theme with good AEL support? Bunch of my favorite themes support snaps turning into video previews which I love, I'd like to see this plus adaptable box thumbs in a theme like Zephyr 2

Thanks. That helps a lot and I'm re-thinking my L4K use case. I normally use it as a shell replacement (PC as appliance), but I'm forced to not use it that way as long as I'm subscribing to XBox game pass UWP apps. I may not need to run L4K at all.

@Wintermute0110

Just a heads up, I created a pull request for the AEL skin to fix special characters in gameplay trailers breaking.

https://github.com/Wintermute0110/skin.e....AEL/pulls

If anybody is interested in trying the fix out, you can grab a release at https://github.com/mechevarria/skin.estu...L/releases

The only difference between the main branch is that gameplay trailers are enabled after 2 seconds. @Wintermute0110  has them disabled by default since the transition is jarring on lower powered systems.

Don't panic. Please put the full debug log following the instructions in the first post. Use a pastebin service.

So, I have been using AEL for sometime and decided to rebuild from scratch my Kodi install. I downloaded version 0.9.8 but cannot get a simple app to launch. Basically the logs indicate it cannot find the file to execute (its a windows .exe). However, it is definitely there -- if I copy/paste the path in the kodi logs into a CMD window it starts right up. I compared the cfg of the launcher to the older Kodi and it's the same. Any ideas? I am missing something in this newer version I need to do?

Logs here: https://paste.kodi.tv/okipuxekig.kodi

So went back to my pre-rebuild version 0.9.5 and it all works fine. SAME path, same executable. So either there is some additional setup in the latest or an defect of some kind. Let me know if you need any more details to debug this (if its an issue). I have been using this for some time and it is an awesome plugin -- one I hardly ever know is there but which is essential in merging Kodi with some external apps ...

@tvsht  I agree that theme support is spotty in recent themes. I decided to mod the Arctic Zephyr 2 theme and add a view that supports game trailers. The view is called ROM Trailer

I ported alot of code from @Wintermute0110 s skin.estuary.AEL theme

If you want to try out the theme, a build is here https://github.com/mechevarria/skin.arct...2/releases

I am going to also post in the zephyr2 forum and put out a pull request so hopefully a view like this can be in the main skin

Appreciate it! I updated my post to just point to the releases section on github. I fixed a couple bugs in the skin for AEL. Regardless of whether you use the view I added or not, vertical scrollbars for going through your AEL library were not working in Arctic Zephyr2. Fixed now.

Tested it and it works well. Transition is a tad jarring. The layout chosen is something I would never use though as indicated by my examples, as I tend to go minimal, browsable snaps with title + some short meta like genre/players

Yeah the transition issue is why the gameplay trailers were commented out in the main AEL Estuary Mod. Fyi, the code was merged into the main Arctic Zephyr 2 codebase. I am going to work on updating the other views to fix artwork path issues.

I started from scratch.  Is there any good documentation or a list of launch arguments by emulator?  I cant seem to remember a few.
