Release Disney+
(2020-05-06, 04:20)stafio Wrote: I'm not sure if it would be a popular change or not, but I think it would be good to have the add-on automatically go to select profile when you first open it.

I get really annoyed at that on the official apps.
But I guess we all use the same profile at my place.

I'll add an add-on setting "Select Profile on Start" to enable the behaviour though Smile
I think i'll default it to off though so current behaviour remains until its changed

And if the current profile is a kids profile with the "kid lockdown mode" selected - then it won't show either
Else kids can just exit the add-on and restart it to get into adults profile

Only issue is - how do I know when it's the "first time" into the add-on.
There are multiple entry points so can't do it based on the Home menu.
eg. A user has favourited his Watchlist. when they click that - they should get the profile select still
A skin setting wont work as that doesnt clear unless a reboot of kodi.

I assume you want it asking for Profile everytime you've gone to a different add-on then back into this one?
What about after you've played local media?
the add-ons don't know when you've "gone elsewhere".

I think I can take advantage of the reuse interpreter here.
If I set a global variable -  it will persist until another interpreter (addon) is run.
Dont think it would clear with local playback though.
Ill have a play

Any chance we could have so the views can be changed?

im using embuary skin and it doesnt change to wide, and in other skins if you change the view to wide it uses the fanart pic and not the awesome netflix style thumb

Having that an option is definitely a good idea. Also, the "kid lockdown mode" check is a good idea.

I'm used to what the Netflix add-on does, which is prompt you with profile selection each time you go back into the add-on. I don't find that I jump back and forth between media sources in one sitting too often so it's not annoying to me, but maybe others would find it irritating.

When they were both disabled, I got 720p.  When enabled, I seem to be limited to 1080p, but maybe I am not finding the right content.  I looked at the Movies Category, and then I think the subcategory was UHD / HDR.  I'll be curious to see what other Shield users are seeing.

Are you USA?
Seems the rest of the world is limited quality due to covid
But even then, I could still see 2160 here in NZ

This is what is happening

And this is what i want to happen

the addon wont allow view change and in the skins it does you dont end up with the thumb image with the logo on it, instead you end up with the fanart,  It was an issue with catchup tv and more addon until myself and jurialmunkey got it fixed, here is what he said

Skin author here.

These issues experienced by popeye2468 are because the Catch-Up TV addon is not setting ListItem.Art(landscape). The addon is only setting Art(thumb) which is a generic artwork type with no specified aspectratio (thumb could be poster, icon or landscape). Because the addon sets the content/dbtype to files, there is nothing to indicate to the skin that 16:9 landscape art is available in the thumb. Since 16:9 artwork is required for that view, the skin falls back to using fanart because it doesn't know what art the thumb contains.

Correct process is to set landscape art to the landscape art artwork type. Landscape art can be set in python with the ListItem setArt() method:

The issue to which im having is also present in your curiosity stream adon too

Just pushed 0.4.0 of slyguy common that should sort it out.
If I don't explicitly set icon, banner or landscape - they will be set to thumb.
This is across all my add-ons. (yes, sometimes will be wrong aspect - but better than a completely different view imo)

Force update by following below and please let me know if that sorts it.

@kampfi
Yes, thats normal for my add-ons.
Kodi logs that everytime you access the add-on settings for some reason.
Kodi 18 doesn't even fully support the new settings format.

I also store "userdata" in the settings as that makes quicker access.
The common module stores things like last_check_time in these settings.
So when it's looping in the service, it's checking if a new check is needed.

I do have some plans to quiet it down.
For starters moving userdata out of the settings and into a db probably.
Problem is dbs are slow to open every add-on load.
So think will have the common service with the db open and use an api to set / get userdata

Yes, I am in the USA.  If I am the only one, don't worry about it.  It's by no means a deal-breaker.

Here are my results

The Lion King (remake)
USA login

L1 Disabled = Max 1280x720
L1 Enabled Only = Max 1920x1080
L1 Enabled & H.265 Enabled = 1920x1080
L1 Enabled & H.265 Enabled & HDR10 Enabled = Max 3840x2160
L1 Enabled & H.265 Enabled & Dolby Vision = Max 3840x2160

So maybe you need to enable HDR10 and try that (even if tv doesnt support HDR10)

Interesting.  Yes, enabling HDR10 appears to work with my non-HDR screen.  Well done!

Looks like Disney+ only provides 4K in HDR.
There highest SDR stream is 1920x1080

Not sure how kodi / your tv handles showing HDR video in SDR.
I read that the colours look washed out?

You could compare highest 1920x1080 with HDR10 enabled vs highest 1920x1080 without HDR10 enabled to check.
See if the colours look different.
