If playing with PVR IPTV, go direct to those channels by pressing channel number while watching other channels.

The key is open no sound channels while playing another channel.

My system is CoreElec 9.2 run on TV box. I didn't check this on other systems.
AWESOME! Thanks! This worked for me on my Win10 Kodi 18.8 instances.

I've also noticed this happening and the same solution, but also the resume function in the addon does the same thing. Starting playing a video then stop halfway through to create a resume point. Playing from that resume point plays the video just fine but there is no sound. You have to start from the beginning to get sound. I believe this is an issue with IA.

It worked on my Win10 18.7 instance. I was able to get BBC America (one of a few that would) to produce sound and then was able to trigger TCM to produce sound.
However, in my Linux (elementaryOS/Ubuntu) 18.7 instance, nothing. The only channel that could produce sound was FilmRise which is VOD, not streaming. (I guess I ought to try updating to 18.8 to see if that works - however, the AppStore on elementary is still pushing 18.7.)
As noted before, all channels on Sling with this addon (with the PVR) run perfectly on Android under Leia 18.3 (18.8 bombs loading streams).

I wonder why the work-around works at all. Is that a clue as to why the others (including n Linux) are running silent? Is it a port that get forced open? Is there an automatic setting we need to run manually - or vice-versa?
Ideas?

Is it possible to get the plugin to save the XML and m3u to files on the filesystem, instead of using the http url?

http is not reliable, frequently resulting in tons of errors like this:

2020-09-14 16:44:07.967 T:3667890912   ERROR: AddOnLog: PVR IPTV Simple Client: Unable to load EPG file 'http://192.168.1.17:9999/guide.xml':  file is missing or empty. :2th try.

and no guide data (or no sling channels being listed).  Especially when doing things like changing profiles.

Also, is it possible to configure the sling plugin to *not* touch the iptv configuration? And only write the epg.xml and channles.m3u out to a file somewhere? (other than disabling the plugin).  There's another plugin (IPTV Merge) that I'd like to use to combine multiple playlists (sling + other stuff) together.

I've actually been able to work around this by editing the Sling add-on. It has to do with how the resume points are created. Once some blocks of that code are modified, sound works on all channels, every time. I can open a ticket on what I did. A PR may not be wanted since it does remove the resume point functionality... I've added what I've changed here(sling.py): https://paste.kodi.tv/hiqisucige.kodi This was done through trial-and-error so YMMV but I've been using it for months without a single issue--probably another more elegant way of fixing it.

Saw something last night about a wildvine update, obviously because we don't exactly have a choice in the matter. I accepted it.

That & because without it, this app wouldn't work LOL

But now I can't get a damn thing to play.

Just received another wildvine update, for now... it seems everything's ok.

I'm a experienced Kodi user but just added the Sling AddOn and cannot get any channel stream to start.  Updated and reinstalled the addon and all the dependencies - no change.  Tried this on three different devices (two Windows 10 x86 PC's, and an Android tablet) and see the same problem on all.  Stream does not start.  See the channel list, can choose a channel, but the stream doesn't start, stays in channel list with no visible error message.

Any suggestions?

I would like to know this as well. Actually, an even better route would be to just make the Sling addon compatible with IPTV Merge so that it just shows works as a recognized addon. It would be nice to be able to have the Sling addon be compatible, so we can have any blend of channels we want, such as merging together the Sling channels and Matt Huisman's Pluto TV and/or STIRR addon channels. Matt has made IPTV Merge so that if you create the right root directory setup in your addon, it will automatically work with IPTV Merge

Tonight when trying to start channel in Sling, it starts like it is going to play, and then times out after about 20-30 seconds. Here's my error log: https://paste.kodi.tv/alavokavab

@mikefreeman @randallspicher
just going off the add-on source, you could try

IPTV Merge > Playlist > Add > URL > http://127.0.0.1:9999/channels.m3u
IPTV Merge > EPG > Add > URL > http://127.0.0.1:9999/guide.xml

then turn off "Enable EPG into IPTV" in Sling settings.

Or, could try adding a new .iptv_merge file in the sling add-on dir with the following contents instead of above
Code:
{
    "version":  3,
    "playlist": "http://127.0.0.1:9999/channels.m3u",
    "epg":      "http://127.0.0.1:9999/guide.xml"
}
That should allow you to use the nicer Add > Add-on method.

Note: Untested as I don't have a sling login

Sling addon v.0.103 on Windows 10 with Kodi 18.8 . Starting a couple of days back - getting timeout on Sling channels. From the log it seems to be related to the inputstream adaptive component. I uninstalled the sling addon as well as the inputstream adaptive addon....reinstalled both and still getting the timeouts. I have two RPi3 with Libreelec that do not have any issues with the Sling addon. Just the Windows box. Here's the log:

Kodi Sling TV Addon Log

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It seems the issue is related to the latest inputstream update (2.4.6-Leia, released ~3 days ago). I downgraded to 2.4.5 and everything plays/works as expected.

I had to manually download it from the official repo mirror since Kodi does not show anything other than the latest, but other than that it was relatively easy to do.

Thanks so much! That fixed the issue. I uninstalled the Inputstream Adaptive 2.4.6 add-on, downloaded the 2.4.5 version from your link, installed it from zip and turned off Auto-update on the add-on. Sling channels now play fine. Thanks again !!!

Tried Inputstream 2.4.5 and it still doesn't work. Did you do anything else?
