i upgraded to fritschfiretv version 18.9, but now the HD audio streams no longer work (I tested 2 DTS-HD MA files that play as normal DTS).
Could someone please remind me wich are the exact settings?"

Before post debug log i'd try to solve myself.
Probably i change some settings and i don't remember

FireTV 4K does not support DTS-HD MA, it never did. You will hear the DTS Core only. This did not change, it never was different. Only DTS-HD-HR is supported by its firmware.

DTS-HD MA converts to PCM in Kodi without quality loss. Sadly no bitstreaming lossless compression.

Sadly not anymore. Kodi obviously decodes it losslessly, but amazon firmware thinks it is a good idea, to reencode the losslessly decoded pcm to DD+ :-(, mmeh.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Still working on mine with Kodi 18.6. Tested both DTS MA and Dolby TrueHD after firstly attempting to update Firestick 4K firmware. It said I had the latest. I have other Kodi devices but for a $25 stick, it works very well. Looks like you need root to disable automatic updates now.

I'm not an Android/Fire OS expert - can you provide a link to what I need to do to do this?

What exactly works for you? You get LPCM output? Playback works for all of us, though the firmware (as you see in my log above) decides to do something with that perfectly fine lpcm float.

What exact firmware version breaks the lpcm output?  Is the Cube also affected?

NS6276/2933 is what I am running which seems to reencode multi-channel float now as well. I sadly forgot about the older version.

Still waiting for reports and adb logcats from others. "Me too" won't help too much sadly.

That appears to match the latest 6.2.7.6 version listed on Amazon's page.  Previous version was 6.2.7.3 released last Summer.  Is it even possible to block these updates without rooting the device?

I don't think so, though - I'd love to see adb logs from you guys playing multi channel pcm. Perhaps it's a local handshake issue with my AVR? Just that we have more than one data.

I'm using fritschfiretv 20201024
NS6276/2933, Surround sound set to Best available
Can only get Stereo, with/without passthrough enabled.

Disabled passthrough, number of channels set to 7.1

Enabled passthrough on everything

I'll do my best to get some logs for you later on today but in a brief test this morning:

- when connected directly to my TV (Sony Bravia XH85) and to my receiver via ARC (Sony HT-XT1) the FireTV 4k (running kodi-20201024-08ee377c-fritschfiretv-armeabi-v7a.apk) outputs multi channel LPCM when playing a video file with TrueHD audio. DTS, DTS-MA and DTS-X all show as "DTS" on the receiver (whatever that means) when passthrough is enabled. When DTS and DTS-HD passthrough are disabled I get multi channel LPCM as expected.

- when connected directly to the AV receiver (and to the TV via ARC) the FireTV 4k transcodes TrueHD audio to DD+, DTS is passed through OK but when passthrough is disabled I get DD+ again.

So it does seem like the behaviour of the FireTV 4k changes depending on how it is connected for me at least. I don't know if it is relevant but the FireTV 4k complained that the HDMI port does not support HDCP2.2 when directly connected to the HT-XT1.

Have you tried it with your Firestick set to Stereo?  For some reason, surround in Kodi works way better on my system with it on that setting.  It's often the only way I get sound out of my rear speakers, even with 5.1 content.  I don't know if it's something weird with my surround system or what.

Oh, wow.. it's weirldy works Big Grin

I'm using Kodi 18.9 right now, passthrough option gone with Firestick set to Stereo. But yeah, it gives me Multichannel PCM on everything.

No surround sound on other streaming apps (netflix, etc) though, obviously.

Edit.
