I had the same issue, tried uninstalling and installing again, re-adding the API info etc... I then added the Repository for the test/beta version, and installed 6.8.9-beta1 and it's now working fine.

I have to be mentally challenged because I failed...
May I ask which repository you added and how? I tried to follow the instructions, added the website with the repo folders to the sources in Kodi, then I tried to zip install any repositories from http: but all of them failed with the message that the format is wrong. Would you mind telling me step by step what I have to do, please?
I am still using Leia, though.
Thanks in advance!

Got it running from the github. Sorry about linking to the author's repo - didn't know it's on black list (is it? - tried to find it without success).

@sus67 @neo_
Sadly the only way to get the real watch later playlist id (required) was through discontinued api. Closest currently would be to create an empty playlist, open context menu on that playlist and set it as Watch Later. This will simulate watch later in a separate playlist, I know it's a pita but it's the current alternative.

@David7578
Saved playlists were part of the discontinued api as well, not sure of it's future currently. If you happen to be using Kodi 19, Tubed has a 'Favorite Playlists' section which is a local database of favorited playlists.

Ok, same API train then...
CoreElec stable is still using kodi 18.9
I just need to be patient then.
Thank you !

Is there a simple Youtube plugin available? I've given a Kodi box to a friend and he wants to watch Youtube videos like on a smart TV. So I installed the plugin but then it advises me to go to the ytaddon web page which pitches straight into a long configuration video, APIs and all sorts of stuff that leaves my head spinning. And I'm technical!

Is there something simple he can use? Ideally he'd like a chromecast type thing where you use your phone to select content and then use the TV to show it.

No offense, but setting the API keys up is very straight forward and takes only a few minutes (use the web interface to copy them).
Change the settings (dash, quality, ...) and you are done.

After that you can use the plugin just as player.
I am using Youtube vanced on my phone and "send" videos via Yatse to Kodi. After the video stopped you are back where you left of in Kodi.

This use case is still working fine after all the described issues on the last pages.

I've learned something in my 30+ years in IT. If something is slow, awkward and complex then it's most likely wrong. This unfortunately matches those characteristics, and I'm no way going down this route as I just know there's be more hard stuff to come if the setup is this bad. I certainly wouldn't call it "straight forward"! I have an aversion to albatrosses around my neck! I'm sure if you view it as a technical challenge then trying to watching the too-fast video whilst jumping through all the various hoops will be great, and good luck to you. But it's not for me! ;-)
Also I've not seen any explanations as to why it's all necessary when a smart TV displays Youtube just fine.
It seems such a shame as Kodi is so polished in other areas, but in others (e.g. PVR) it remains a domain for patient tinkerers only.

Thank you @anxdpanic @PureHemp for your excellent work, it's much appreciated!

I installed anxdpanic's repositories in the order below and it upgraded my 6.8.8 version to 6.8.9~beta 2.
1. repository.anxdpanic-2.0.0.zip
2. repository.yt.testing_official-2.0.0.zip

My API information was kept so there was no need to re-enter my keys.
Happy to report that my subscriptions now shows up again. It takes about 15 seconds to load/refresh my +50 subscribed channels.

That would be great. It seems it's working for some people, but not for others. Maybe we can find the differences and make it work for everyone.

Smart TV will have a licence to have the app on there, you can't compare a Samsung Smart TV to a free open-source piece of software like Kodi. Kodi in itself is not a plug & play solution, if you want that then invest in something like a Roku, or use a Smart TV.

Also, how do you suppose we make the PVR easier? It works perfectly fine and it's really not that difficult to setup. Again though, if you want plug & play then Kodi is probably not the best option, despite what you might hear from box-sellers/YouTubers.

If you mean iptv, it's easy as you said. Dvb-t/s/c is not easy, because Kodi itself is unable to use it, it needs to be streamed from backend server, backend configuration is not so easy. And such configuration is not as stable, because there's 2 points of potential failure, especially if server is on the same machine and it starts in each boot

Many thanks to @anxdpanic & others for doing their very best to get the YT plugin going. Im running the 6.8.9 beta 1 and have most (if not all) of my subscriptions playing normally . I noticed its a beta 2 available, Im going to dig back a few pages or main page to see what changes are. Kudos to all involved & community because Im a YouTube junkie!!!

beta2 just removes the uses of the discontinued api, and the login that was required. So new logins only require one key activation at sign-in.

You understand that the API woes are a google related trouble ? Not Kodi or the youtube addon team.
Google could choose to help/authorise kodi or similar projects. After all Google gets a lot from the community and from gnu (or similar) projects but make it not so easy to use youtube in projects like kodi.
API key creation is a bit cumbersome only if you do not follow the steps in the right order... I know, I did not follow order at first and it didn't work Big Grin
But if you do it right, I'd say you can be done in under 10 minutes if you are a seasonned IT specialist.
If not you might lose time entering the keys. But once done you do not lose them.
And storing those keys, the config file or whatever you prefer is easy too.
