Solved Where to store the movie sets artwork?
#1
If I'm using only local metadata, where should I store the Artwork for the movie SETS?

Ever since I remember I couldn't make Kodi use the artwork I've downloaded, it is currently using the poster of the latest released movie of the movie set. The movie set artwork is currently stored as

Movie Set Folder/Movie A/artwork files.ext

For example:

Evil Dead (Saga)\Evil Dead II (1987) [UHD]\movieset-banner.jpg

So obviously that's not the proper way of storing such files, can anybody please tell how should I do it? tinymediamanger says I should store it in a specific folder that contains other folders with the movie set names but I haven't seen any option in Kodi to configure this, is what tinymediamanager says correct? If so how do I tell Kodi where to look for the movieset artwork? Do I necessarily need to install an external plugin?

I'm not that into Kodi 19 yet, but when the MSIF folder is set in v19, will the video export function also create these movie folders and export the movie set artwork?

You will need to create a folder for Movie set artwork, then once you export all the movie sets will be created under the folder Movies sets artwork.

I was wondering how the hell I missed that because I've looked into the wiki in the past like crazy but just read this is new in Kodi 19. I guess I would have to update.

In earlier versions this wasn't possible to do without addons, right?

Thanks!

I've had this conversation with @Karellen and this was the thread that got everything sorted out for me.

Guys I have recently updated to Kodi 19 after a very long time of not using Kodi and I have already picked up the Artwork folder but Kodi is not using it, for every collection it is showing the poster (for the collection) of the first movie within each collection. I don't understand what more should I do. I followed the wiki. I'm suing tinymediamanager to download all the artwork.

Fwiw, I've never used a media manager.  I've always used Kodi to automate everything including all artwork.  Previously I used ArtworkBeef.  I've been using Artwork Dump throughout v19 and now with v20 nightlies.  I've been very satisfied with both.

When it comes to movie sets, they are created automatically.  So is the artwork.  I just added a sequel to a movie I had and let Kodi scrape it in.  Automatically a movie set was created and both movies are inside it.  A poster was created representing the set - not a copy of one of the movie posters, but an actual set poster.  If the movie set poster is available where your artwork is scraped, this will work every time.  If not, the first movie in the set artwork will be used.  When it becomes available, then it can be applied.  That artwork is cached and not downloaded local.  I would like to d/l it local but I don't know how?  Running AD does not do this for me probably because I do not create nor use movie set art folders.  Tbh, I think that approach is ridiculous folder clutter requiring manual intervention and awareness and I will just leave it cached since it works perfectly as is (especially the automatic aspect).

Other times I may prefer different artwork and go to work manually.  I bring up the context menu and select manage artwork.  I'm presented with all the artwork choices.  By selecting poster for example, I'm presented with many different posters the scraper has available be it movie set posters and/or movie posters within the set.  I can select what I prefer, apply it, and viola.  Other times, I prefer a custom artwork such as an animated.gif which isn't available via scrapers but is from google, etc.  I add it to one of the movie folders that's part of the collection and select browse when managing the artwork and add it.  Viola.

I also used to let Kodi scrap all the info but it's not so convenient at least for me because I don't like titles to be localized (well, I do but only for animated movies), I want the original titles (iirc there was a time years ago where the info providers plugins didn't have the option to use the orig title, even so they only picked up ES-Spain which has totally different titles and character names than ES-Latin America so all the info was weird to read), that was one of the reasons why I started to download all the metadata locally and edit it accordingly. With the collections was the same, their names were downloaded localized, there is no way to not do that so I have to edit their title, change the name of the collection to the original name and leave the " - Colección" part in there, and pick up an English artwork because nobody uses the original title names when creating Spanish artwork, all this with tMM.

Now, I don't know why Kodi is not using the Artwork data, I guess I will have to re-install clean because I can't also install the Titan BINGIE Mod skin which is supposed to be Matrix compatible.

Ok, after deleting the Kodi config from AppData I'm now able to see the movie set artwork for most movies but for some Kodi shows nothing and I think I know why. If the movie set has an special character which in Windows you can't have in any file/folder names then it doesn't detect the movie set artwork, for example:

Collection is named: 28 Days/Weeks Collection
Folder is named: 28 Days Weeks Collection

Collection is named: Batman: The Dark Knight Collection
Folder is named: Batman The Dark Knight Collection

As you know Windows doesn't allow "/" nor ":" on any name. How can I fix that? Will I be limited by this in naming the movie sets?
One thing could be specifying the set folder name in the NFO file.

Use an underscore _ in place of the special character...

Mission: Impossible Collection
becomes
Mission_ Impossible Collection

Thank you for the info, for some reason tinyMediaManager didn't added the underscore to the folder names. Weird.
