An updated version of the Mezzmo Kodi addon for both Kodi v18 (v1.1.9.9) and
Kodi v19+ (v2.1.9.9) have been posted on GitHub. These versions contain a
few assorted bug fixes, mostly related to the recently updated Mezzmo Trailer
Channels, and a couple of new feature enhancements including an option to
reduce the logging to the Kodi.log file and the ability to clear the Kodi thumbnail
cache of Mezzmo data on demand from a context menu.

*** Important Notes***

Happy New Year for 2024. Last year was a major year of development for the Mezzmo
Kodi addon with 27 releases delivered. For 2024 that number will be reduced with a
goal of monthly or bi-monthly. This doesn't mean there will be less focus on development,
just a move towards fewer larger releases vs. quicker smaller releases. As always, major
bug fixes will get addressed quickly.

Support for Kodi 17 and below has phased out. Version 1.1.8.1 is the last version
which will has full Kodi 17 and below support. There are no plans to drop support
immediately for Kodi 18 but you should expect that sometime in early 2024 new
feature enhancements for the Kodi 18 version will cease. Kodi 18 version bug fixes
should continue through this year but likely stop around the end of 2024.

v1.1.9.9 Kodi 18

• Added option setting to reduce general and sync logging to Kodi logfile. All logs
will still be written to the addon logging database. This was a Team Kodi suggestion.
• Fixed a bug which caused the Mezzmo menu to set item as played not to be displayed
if the item play count was < 0.
• Added a feature which sets the Mezzmo and Kodi play counts to 0 if an item has a
play count of < 0 in the Mezzmo database.
• Fixed a couple of bugs which were causing exception errors when displaying TV Show
channel trailers and either the name or series name contained non-ASCII characters
• Fixed a bug where the TV Shows trailers channel would present a context menu option
to search for TV show episodes even though none existed.

v2.1.9.9 Kodi 19+

• Added option setting to reduce general and sync logging to Kodi logfile. All logs
will still be written to the addon logging database. This was a Team Kodi suggestion.
• Fixed a bug which caused the Mezzmo menu to set item as played not to be displayed
if the item play count was < 0.
• Added a feature which sets the Mezzmo and Kodi play counts to 0 if an item has a
play count of < 0 in the Mezzmo database.
• Fixed a bug where the TV Shows trailers channel would present a context menu option
to search for TV show episodes even though none existed.
• Added support for Kodi 21 Omega beta 2 with video database 124.

If you have version 1.1.4.4 or 2.1.4.4 installed (or higher) and automatic updates
are enabled this update will be automatic over the next 24 hrs. Otherwise please
use the links below for manual installation.

There are separate links for the Kodi 18 and Kodi 19 versions. The Kodi 19 version is based upon the
latest Kodi 18 v1.1.9.9 code.

Click on the download source as a zip option and then to add it to Kodi by using the install from zip file option.

Feedback and feature requests are always welcome. I would like to understand how many of you use
the addon to play music from Mezzmo ? This could help guide future feature development.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi,
will this addon show Pictures from Gnome's embedded UPnP server (https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Rygel)?

I have never tested it but I don't see any reason why it won't.  You are welcome to try it and if there are issues we can easily troubleshoot them with the Mezzmo Koid Addon diagnostics, which logs server responses.

Thanks, I don't see one too but it's just not quite clear from the description in OP.

I've been reading the forum, the mezzmo wiki and the osmc forum to see if there is a quick way to select additional artwork like clearlogo, clearart etc.

I have a library of +2500 movies and +200 tv shows and have been using the build-in upnp server in Kodi to share my library between my HTPC and Vero 4K+. I've come across posts discussing mezzmo and have already installed it, but besides the poster and backdrop/fanart it doesn't scrape more artwork and I've been looking for a way to get all the artwork. A long time ago I would have used Artwork Beef, but it doesn't work anymore.

Also mezzmo seems to scrape more than one studio and when that happens Kodi will not display the studio icon anymore, is there a way for mezzmo to scrape just one studio? I can edit it manually in mezzmo, but I have too many movies.

So can mezzmo work together with a artwork downloader, maybe someone knows one that still works? I'm running Kodi build 20.3. Can somethign be done about the studio scraping?

Thank you so much for these questions.  I've been waiting to have the Mezzmo artwork dialog with folks who have used the various Kodi artwork addons.  Are you running both the Mezzmo server and the Mezzmo Kodi addon or the Mezzmo Kodi addon with Kodi as the UPnP server ?  I ask because artwork handling with DLNA / UPnP has no real standards so each DLNA / UPnP server vendor has done things differently and I have been hesitant to build special artwork functionality into the Mezzmo Kodi addon which would get away from the centralized management value it provides.  But I also know that this becomes limiting with respect to what Kodi users generally expect with the other addons so I am very interested in seeing what else can be done.

Yes, based upon the lack of DLNA / UPnP standards for handling artwork Mezzmo centrally hosts poster, folder and backdrop/fanart artwork for media and poster images for actors/actresses etc..  But it has some really cool ways of handling this centrally, including locking out updates so that even if you rescrape your media metadata the artwork never changes and more.

The standard Kodi value for studios is a list which can contain more than one studio.  I could add an option to the Mezzmo Kodi addon to limit to one studio.  It would be limited to whichever studio the scraper being used (Kodi or Mezzmo depending upon your UPnP server) places first in the list.  You say you've edited this manually to a single studio and it worked for you.  Does this mean you are using a Mezzmo server and editing the properties for the specific media and removing additional studios from the Production Company field ?

This is something I am very interested to do or to build the artwork scraping functionality into the Mezzmo Kodi addon.  It isn't something I am likely to ask the Mezzmo developers to add to the server because the Mezzmo server supports many non-Kodi client types which likely don't know how to handle other artwork.

Thanks,

Jeff

I'm running the Mezzmo server together with the Mezzmo Kodi addon, I've just added a handful of movies just to see how it works. I thought I read somewhere that Mezzmo could import my entire already existing library from Kodi, but I can't find that info anymore so perhaps I either misread or misremember.

Yes I edit the studio within the Mezzmo server, you can edit pretty much every piece of metadata there manually.

I also believe that this could be handled by the Mezzmo Kodi addon, but I don't know how. I do believe that for people like myself that use a skin that uses a lot of artwork, this could be the reason to use or not use Mezzmo. You could in theory download all artwork manually inside the folder with your movie/tv show and add them manually within the Kodi library, but that would be very time consuming.

You can export your Kodi library to individual NFO files and put the NFO files in the folders with your media as you build your Mezzmo library.  Once Mezzmo does the initial import the NFO files really aren't necessary, as you have seen with the Mezzmo editor.

Yes, that is a very nice feature of Mezzmo.  You can also edit many at the same time with the multi-select capability.  Artwork can be imported as long as the file names conform to what Mezzmo supports, otherwise they will be rescraped.  I am getting ready to release a new version of the Mezzmo Kodi addon.  I will hold it a bit to add a new feature to limit the studios to a single entry.

What would be helpful for me is to understand how you are using the addon in GUI mode or native Kodi mode, where the studio images are disappearing ?  GUI mode is when you browse your Mezzmo server.  Native mode is when you use the Kodi library views.   A screenshot of when it works properly and doesn't would be extremely helpful.

Thanks,

Jeff

Right now the Mezzmo Kodi addon does not pull additional artwork but it also should not interfere with other artwork sources, addons and scrapers.  I'd need to add functionality to it to scrape additional artwork.  Let's get the studio thing working and then we can discuss, in more detail, how you use additional artwork and such.

Yes I edit the studio within the Mezzmo server, you can edit pretty much every piece of metadata there manually.

The studio icon issue you describe sounds more like a skin bug issue but I have gone ahead and created a test release of the Mezzmo Kodi addon which only displays a single studio and only syncs a single studio to the Kodi database, to handle both the GUI and native mode operations.  You can download it here to try.  I presume you are using Kodi 19 or higher ?

For GUI mode operation you will see the change immediately.  For native mode operation you will need to resync your library with Mezzmo.  You can wait and let that happen automatically with the daily sync process or manually do it with the on demand option setting.  It is under Content Control  and then Kodi DB clear Mezzmo data on startup.  Change the option to Full Sync and then reenter the addon GUI and this will kickoff the sync process.  You can see more details here under the On Demand section of the Wiki.

I have hard coded the single studio in this test release.  If this works how you desire I will make it an option under the native section options..

Thanks,

Jeff

I just downloaded the test release and indeed it now selects one studio this is great for skins like Aeon Nox and other skinds that use studio icons.

I've tried adding the additional artwork manually like clearart. I downloaded the art within the video folder and manually inside Kodi selected the artwork, but it doesn't appear. Perhaps this happens, because it's still upnp and not scraped within the Kodi library. Since the Mezzmo server handles all the artwork and Kodi shows whatever is scraped within Mezzmo it can't add artwork. I don't think you can change this within the addon, it would have to be done within the Mezzmo server.

By the way big thanks for making this an option for the icons.

Yes, the artwork needs to be inserted into the Kodi library in native mode.  In GUI mode the addon needs to display it as part of the lisitem directory but right now, as you've mentioned,  Mezzmo itself won't find that artwork.  I need to know which method you are using (GUI mode or native mode) to better understand the options.   I have a couple in mind but I need to be careful not to break things..

Thanks for confirming the fix. As mentioned though, this is really a skin issue.

I'll be publishing 1.2.0.0 / 2.2.0.0 of the addon likely tomorrow.  I'll add this new option into those releases.

The artwork question aside how is everything else going with Mezzmo and the addon ?  There is a bit of a learning curve due to all the features but hopefully you are finding it easy to use and long term your library administration should get very easy.

Thanks,

Jeff
