Make that three, just installed it to see if there was any validity to this post. Played out fine, jumped around and FF without issue, (20 year old MB with 25mbs connection Kodi V21 ) actually a bit impressed by this add-on.
There's validity to the post if three people can confirm the addon is ok, then the issue must be something else.

I know it's not the same thing, but I find it strange I am able to play 1080p Youtube videos with ease and have difficulty  with these videos that often aren't even 480p.  My laptop is older, yes but I don't think it is beyond doing this (i5/8Gb RAM/SSD)

Glad you're impressed by the addon because that is why I am raising this fuss.  It is an amazing resource even more so when you drill down into it.  It would be one addon to survive with if everything else went down.  Everyone should have this addon.

I think CrystalP had the right idea with "try a separate brand new portable install" External players (wiki) cleared of any extras, plain vanilla set-up with only this one add-on and let's see where this takes us. You may be asking a bit too much with a laptop System with 8.0 GB of RAM installed and utilizing shared memory and a lot going on. Might want to keep OSD monitoring alive checking for fetch & bandwidth issues.

What is it about this website/addon that sets it apart from others?  I can play videos fine with any other addon at 1080p, surely we don't need 16Gb of RAM to play a video properly

That's what we are trying to determine with your help.

That's just what I'm looking for, thanks.

Just as an example of the little things that can happen, previously I had an issue with an addon and the developer didn't.  Come to find out (through a third party) was that one of the commands had changed its syntax in Python 3, which I was using.  The developer was still using Python 2.  Once he changed the command, my addon started working and his kept on working.  Little things.

Obviously, I'll help however I can but I'm not a developer and don't know very much (which doesn't stop me from asking) Smile

Understanding that there is no full time developers or volunteers, we all have scarce timetables. Given that Kodi encompasses multi-platforms, on a multitude of configurations and iterations of operating systems, the logistics become a mathematical nightmare. Kodi is developed by the team on their personal set-ups which are never like the stuff run by most users, it's thrown out as test versions until the complaint levels off to the point that we balance bug-fixes with new features for the next iteration. When issues arise, we always recommend default skins, local sources debug logs and the simplest set-ups to gauge if we really have a show stopper. Add-on's are left to the 3rd party authors to support, and sometimes as in the case of the upgrade to Python a lot can break until support in that area is patched or the code is ruled depreciated.

In some cases, the combination of hardware and software (3rd party overlays) combine to create issues that are not repeatable because of myriad of issues, and we never get to the bottom of it. In the hope that this is your case, we suggest the portable installation to test when a basic set-up exists with this add-on on your hardware. we've already affirmed the add-on is functional using our personal set-ups which are not similar to yours.

Thanks for that, I'm going to have to do some reading and post when I'm ready to go as this stuff is new to me.  Until then, anyone else, please feel free to contribute.

Ok, back again, I seem to have this portable install going and have installed the Internet Archive from the Kodi Repo as the only thing added to the portable install.

I went back to the old reliable Bionic Woman and found no change in the behaviour on my setup (i5 8Gb RAM/Win 10/Kodi 21.1)
Popular collections-1970s Classic TV-Bionic Woman Black Magic (1976)-mp4 original

The video started, I advanced it once (it was ok) advanced it again and the video stopped (with picture still on screen).  I tried to go back (no response) and then tried to click stop (no response).  Eventually had to ctrl/alt/del to close Kodi

Thanks, appreciate the help

please try again with only one change: disable dxva acceleration.
I see traces of one skip in the log but not two.

I disabled hardware acceleration dxva2 and had same result:
Video played ok for one minute
I forwarded once (played ok)
I forwarded again (crash)
Tried to go backwards (nothing)
Tried to stop (nothing)
Had to Ctrl/Alt/Del to exit Kodi

Unfortunately, I accidentally closed the log and lost the info before I was able to post it.

Since then I have been trying to duplicate those results but sometimes it does work (slowly)

On this attempt I think the video stopped playing not long into the video and I tried to close it and had to Ctrl/Alt/Del to exit Kodi

I'll keep trying and post when I can get the same behaviour as before.

ok, well there still isn't anything noticeable in the log... I found an old computer of the same generation as yours and it has no problem. Tried also disconnecting/reconnecting network while playing, Kodi either resumed or exited playback to menu cleanly.
Last attempts were with fullscreen window so having to ctrl/alt/del is really not normal and could indicate stability issues of the computer.
Last thing I can think of with v21 is to turn on all component logging in addition to the debug logging, in case something more appears in the logs.

So, if I'm hearing what you are saying, it's that the addon works fine and also the addon and website work ok with older equipment (not too old).

I'm just eliminating the possibilities and trying to think about this logically.  My setup doesn't have an issue with any other addon and in fact can play VOD and go forward, go back and stop on every other addon even when using a gimmick (that bad little 3 letter word) that should slow things down.  It is only rarely turned on.

I have the simplest of setups, a short hard wired connection (not wireless).  I'm not smart enough to get complicated.

It's only this website/addon that has issues and is also the only one to offer choices for playback formats

Maybe this will help

Classic TV- "Stump the Stars"-Julie London vs. Fabian mpeg (original 480p) 1.00 GB

I did a search for the video, tried to play it, crashes immediately and then CTRL/ALT/DEL to close Kodi

This one crashes immediately

Log

Just for curiosity sake are you search for and open The Wooden Horse

I can't even get the 480p version to start let alone the 1080p. I think the issue for me is how the videos at this website download to the PC vs how other VOD addons do it. But again I don't know anything, just trying to make sense of it.

Both videos and all variants play/jump/stop A-1 here. v21 and v22.

The problem may be somehow network related, all your logs have some eof indications / random corruption (the missing NAL) that are not visible here.
You can get some visibility on the cache while playing in the info screen (the little grey rectangle of the progress bar past the white bar current playing point) and in the player debug info (ctrl+shift+o), see wiki for explanations, unfortunately a bit outdated (https://kodi.wiki/view/Player_process_info).

The addon handles the website navigation and delegates the video download and playback to Kodi core. I'm not very knowledgeable about that but believe that's what other addons do as well.
