1 HTPC with 2 discrete HD output (video and audio)
#1
I have a question:

I want to build an HTPC with 2 outputs (HDMI) verus two HTPC and save half the $$
I would like to use xbmc, 2 concurrent windows, each output would go to a different Onkyo reciever that is 7.1.
I will use 2 different ipads for the remote, different port number to control each xmbc window.

Base parts
i3-2100
mATX mobo - must be asrock - without - DP (as it can run dual outputs)
amd 6450

I will use the video card for one output - both video and audio
then use the intel 2100 for the secondary video and audio

My video server is all HD.

I need to control each xbmc independantly -

Thoughts? Advice? is it even doable?
If not, any other way to not have 2 HTPC for 2 different TV's with independant control for selection of media?

Thanks

Why don't you just split the output with a HDMI splitter. I split a lot of my outputs to spread feeds around the house.

EDIT:
Sorry, you want two separate XBMC's. I should have paid more attention.Rolleyes

I want to watch different movies in each tv. It needs to be separate outputs, going to two different receivers.

lookup multi-seat linux. I've heard it's been done.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultiseatX
Code:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `xbmc_%`.* TO 'xbmc'@'%';
IF you have a mysql problem, find one of the 4 dozen threads already open.

I think its impossible to be done cuz:
1. afaik there is now way to have 2 xbmc instances on one pc.
2. almost impossible to control them (booth at once)
3. not sure if current hw is able to decode 2 full hd streams at once

Only idea that comes to my mind about how to solve it is just running second xbmc instance on virtual machine (it fixes 1. and 2.) but it wont (second instance) be able to use hw for decoding - with really strong cpu (will have to emulate gpu & decode hd stream = alot cpu time) it may work - but expect almost full cpu load

I missed this one:

Im not hw expert but i don't think its possible to have 2 gpu working with different outputs. Just get one gpu that is able to use many monitors (it will means probably hdmi + dvi)
