I am having a problem whereby when I click the Exit button or If i try to close the window in windowed mode, xbmc will seem to immediately freeze.

xbmc does not crash, I cannot kill it with a normal interrupt signal. I have to kill -9 to actually make the window go away.

I made a debug log, XBMC looks like it's starting to shut down properly, but it halts on:

Steps to reproduce
Open XBMC
Click Shutdown icon
Click Exit button <--- xbmc window freezes

Fedora release 15 (Lovelock)
2.6.38.6-27.fc15.i686.PAE i686
xbmc built on Apr 19 2011 (Git:Unknown)
Installed from rpm: xbmc-10.1-3.fc15.i686 from rpm-fusion
If there are other system related things that would be helpful, please ask.

Things I have already tried
Disabling selinux temporarily ( echo 0 > /selinux/enforce)
Reinstalling xbmc
Enabling debuglevel 3 and looking for errors or anything that stands out

If anyone has any ideas about this, I would be very grateful.

I have the same thing happening. I installed Fedora last week, noticed this with XBMC. Strangely, it started working properly but then something else hosed my Fed installation so I reinstalled last night, and xbmc is back to freezing upon exit.
Any tips on whats going on would be similarly well received.

Fedora 15 does this for me also. Which sucks, as it won't work on Ubuntu without Nvidia drivers that refuse to recognise my LCD TV, so get stuck with crappy resolution and tried all sorts of things to fix that already, with no success.

Can you not force the graphics mode for your TV using an xorg.conf?
I did end up removing my nvidia card because I thought the quality of the picture was poorer than the on-board intel graphics from my core i3... however now I've remembered that the HDMI output on that stops working if I switch the TV off while the computer is on...
If it's not one thing, it's another If only I could find a distro on which *everything* works. I might actually try Fedora 14 instead...

I got the same problem on Archlinux.
On the log file, I had the same thing as bringbackyun.

got the same problem on Linux Mint Debian Edition.

with LMDE it's possible to open a new session with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE and restart the computer ...

I had this problem on my HP Pavilion laptop running Fedora 15. But it went away when I turned off hardware acceleration in video system settings.
