External Samsung G drive 2.0 USB is slow
#1
Hello,

I have the following problem with my 2TB External Samsung G drive USB2.0.

I am using XBMC, and with movies/tv shows on my small internal 2,5 inch/5400 RPM HDD I can play content just fine.

When I want to play stuff from my External USB2.0 drive, the playback and acces time is just horrible!
Movies play 5 seconds, then stops for a while, plays another 5 secs, stops, etc. really slow acces times.
it also takes quite long to open files trough Windows Explorer from the external HDD.

is there anyone else who is experiencing this from External Samsung G drive?
Shouldnt a USB2.0 external HDD be faster then an internal 5400 RPM HDD?

The problem is that I only have like 320GB internal HDD, and for that bought the External 2TB drive.

Should Defrag or re-format do any good?

Nope, USB 2.0 is slower than an internally connected hard drive (probably sata connection)

That said my usb drive is fine for playing stuff off. Depends what the bit-rate of your films is. If they are blu-ray rips then you may have a problem.

Hm oke, what about E-SATA? my Zotac ZBOX has 1 E-SATA port. shouldnt that be just an internal port with an outside connection? (if you know what I mean)

Yep.
It will be faster than USB 2.0

What files stutter (HD ones or any files)?
