How Well Will This Athlon 64 X2 2.3GHz Work?

Question
I have an old eMachines 6409 Single Core P4 3.0 Ghz, 2GB Ram, Win XP.

I put a 210GT Vid Card in it.
It 'almost' plays 1080 without skipping.
Man I love XBMC!

I'm thinking of getting this, adding 1 GB Ram for 2GB total, and moving the 210GT to it.

What do you think for the price? Will it work OK?
OS included.. (That's where I struggle in justifying a new build)

Thx,

having 2GB's of RAM wouldnt hurt in there...

CPU is ok,,,,

GT210 would be perfect in there too....

OS should be Win7 to enable Hardware Accel in XBMC,,,,

XBMC under XP doesnt have Hardware Accel
unless you use MediaPlayerClassic as your video player...

With a GT210 your CPU doesn't really matter all that much. You'll be able to play 1080p24 just fine.

you should just install windows 7 or xbmc live on your current machine and enable dxva2.. that should work perfectly.

I have experience with those exact Lenovos and it will work with a low-profile GT210.

They are LOUD though, I wouldn't want them as my HTPCs (I use them for cheap terminal at work).

The Pentium 4 could play 1080p in XBMC Live.

OK well thanks for the guidance gentlemen.
I guess I'll look for a copy of Win 7 and go from there.

Not much of a Linux guru, and my GF likes to use that PC for other things also, so I'm guessing XBMC Live is out of the question.

And so bottom line it sounds like whether further hardware upgrade is necessary or not, Win 7 would be the way to go.

Win 7 Downloading now.

Thx Again!

try with window7 and enable Hardware Accel in XBMC's video settings,,,

if option is not there or anything,

grab either a HD5450 or GT210 low profile card..

That appears to have done it Eskro and gang!
You guys are great!

Got Win 7 Prof Upgrade @ student discount for $29.99.

Installed nVidia drivers, XBMC, and enabled hardware acceleration and it seems to play Cars .m2ts just fine no skipping.

-------------------

I almost donated that old eMachines until I stumbled upon this site.

But so far I've only spent about $300 total and have a really nice complete 2nd Home Theatre:

1. Yamaha RX V765 7.2 Chan 665 watt HDMI AV Receiver: $235 on Ebay
(Got a hell of a deal on this, brand new, already have the RX-661/PS3 in the bedroom)
2. 3GHz eMachine: $0
(Was collecting dust)
3. EVGA 210GT: $25 on Ebay
(Used works great)
4. Win 7: $30
(A steal)

Total: $290.00:
Priceless!!
Not a bad price for an endless amount of entertainment really....
I'll try to post some pics later.

Thx again!!
