Solved 10-bit h264 (Hi10) Support?
(2013-03-22, 13:34)PatrickBateman Wrote: Dam,
So I'll need a nightly instead...

What do you recommend, a nightly (if so which one) or a DIY into 12.1?

Thanks for the info,
Pat

Edit:
Did you notice a difference in hi10p content? Did the Multi threading make a huge or small difference?

I could not it, yet. I am still to trying resolve the problem with HDMI and AV Receiver.

Anyone know if this update for MT made it into OpenElec 3.0?

I think it is by default since 3.0 RC2.

Is there an easy log mode to the typical noob or a way to break info to the next line?

Fixed in upcoming Frodo v12.2 or Gotham v13

I am trying to get Hi10 playback on my Z-Box AD-04 HTPC running XBMC 12.1 which I just installed today.
Here are some of the specs of my system:
Amd E-450 APU (1.65ghz)
Amd Radeon HD 6300 Series Graphics
8GB Ram

I have no problems playing full blu-ray quality files ( I've tested a 45mbps bit rate file with no choppyness)

When trying to play a Hi10p file of the new evangelion movie by Coalgirls the playback is choppy. Any suggestions on settings or adjustments I could make to try and fix this issue. Would a newer nightly build help

Heres a pic of the Video info when my computer is trying to run the file
Image
cpu usage averaged from 55%-78%
The problem is the vcpu usage at 95%

I'am afraid, there is nothing you can do.
Your hardware is too slow, Hi10p need more power on cpu side, Zotac with Intel Celeron 847 or Core i3 will play it without problem.
Don't go with Intel Atom or AMD E/C series, ihave try it to play Hi10p, and it sucks.

I'am anime fans , so i need HTPC that can play Hi10p, so i just make my new HTPC, and i go to Intel Celeron 847 + OpenELEC 3.0.0
but sometimes with heavy subtitle like in Bakuman. 3 when Miho read SMS text, it will choppy and cpu usage goes 90%.
perhaps in the future i will upgrade to Intel Pentium B950 or B940 for my new HTPC, i have my friend who have it, and try it, it will play prefectly with cpu usage only goes to 50%-60% only.

720p Hi10p should play fine on a E450, assuming you run a nightly version of xbmc or openelec 3.0.1, which have multithreaded decoding. Haven't tried 1080p on it (I don't have my E350 anymore, so I can't say anything about that).
CoreElec on a tn95 (s905x). Onkyo NR-656. Canton Movie CD-1000. LG 55B6V.

If it ain't broke: break it, fix it, repeat

You sure about that claim? fritsch added multithreading for Hi10P its said here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1371299

and here for patch which is now included https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/2064

and even says atom should be ok http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1301796 and here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1314150

Im not a Hi10P supporter and think its idiotic since there is no 10bit sources to begin with its just 8bit sources reencoded, which is akin to similar moronic SD resolution material reencoded to HD resolution which the point is input source cannot be magically changed at will and actually be correct. Not to mention using 16 ref frames idiotic encodes http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1338095

However even then with such a dim view of Hi10P, I;ll bother actually posting slightly factual claims before clicking post reply.

Anyway Openelec had that patch but it was disabled for a few releases iirc it was disabled by 3.0.0 and reenabled later on.

So should i try to install a nightly build of Frodo and install the patch? Like i said I currently have installed 12.1
I have no experience installing patches into XBMC so how would i go about doing that?
Reply
12.1 has the patch iirc. I would be looking at encode though you should be using XBMC from xvba ppa anyway.

From my expreience, i have try ASUS - Eee PC 1215B with E450, and it sucks.
About intel Atom and other Netbook based processor, i have read it form other forum, bakabt, animesuki, etc (sory i forgot the link) , it will suffer to play Hi10p.

MP not gonna magicly make Hi10p will play smoothly on Netbook based Processor, this kind of processor sacrifice the power processing to make it have lower batteray consumption.

I have go to this link http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1371299 ,

This is for Core i3, not AMD E450

And in here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1301796 , its D2700 could play "fine"
And in here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1314150 , fritch not mentioned play on E450

I'am not supporter of Hi10p too, if some fansub release 8bit version, i will go 8bit.
and the fact, some fansuber will release Hi10p that more heavy to decode than other fansub,
you could try BluRay Steins Gate from WhyNot, the 720p in my HTPC sometime will choppy,
UTW , Coalgirls and Thora sometime release heavy Hi0p too.

and there is another demanding than hi10p it self, is the subtitle A.S.S , some fansuber release a heavy effect in A.S.S that gonna eat all your cpu resource.
afaik, coalgirls have one anime that in hi10p and have heavy subtitle A.S.S that need core i7 class processor to play smoothly.

i don't want to discuss it anymore, it's just came from my experience as anime fans.
if you don't believe me, that fine by me.

ps: sory for my bad english

Is E450 fusion? If yes it says it clearly on https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/2064.

The problem with these 10 bit encodes are stupid because they are from 8bit sources to begin with. SO why watch something that is 8bit reecoded to 10bit is both useless and pointless.

I know there seems to be a disagreement here on whether or not it's possible on the e450 to playback 10bit but If I understand your last message correctly 12.1 Frodo already has the patch built in so the nightly builds wouldn't help. The xvba ppa is a specialized xbmc build specifically for my system so if I installed that it might help? I wouldn't usually care but the only blu ray quality files on the web of the cowboy bebop movie and evangelion 3.33 are both 10bit.

I know that idiotic things, i'am my self don't like Hi10p eather,
I always try to get 8bit one.

Yes, it fusion, i have go to that link, it could maximaze the performance of E450, but as a said before, there is alot of factor in anime fansuber world, like some fansuber releasing heavy hi10p video and heavy A.S.S subtitle along with Hi10p video.
that factor can make watching anime will choppy, and recently alot of fansuber switching to hi10p, so it hard to find 8bit.
so as anime fans like me, there no other choice to watch hi10p, and if the hardware not powerfull, it will make me to buy another powerfull again.
fansuber is free "things", and you know, theye are alot of selfish one that force you, because no other fansuber subs the anime.
if you anime fans, you will remember the day when they switch from xvid, to real media than h264, and now hi10p, and it will go on in the future, to make "the fans" suffer.
the best way is to learn japanesse and watch the raw, it's 8bit mpeg-ts.

ps: there is some group that converting 10bit to 8bit, like DeadFish, etc , but the qualty of video is not as good as the original from fansuber, i can see the diference in my LCD TV (this where i wath anime with xbmc, it's just 32" FullHD TV + my new laptop Asus X201E with Intel Celeron 847).

You can get Evangelion BluRay in 8bit from here http://ruell.blogspot.com/

Im just going from the comments from the developer that patched it as I pointed out. Its meant to work on fusion platforms https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/2064.
So if it does or not idk.

Yes you should be using XBMC from xvba ppa which is optimized for AMD platforms on gpu acceleration and also contains this patch for 10bit.

@willburstyle06 @sukanime
I doubt that any of these 10bit files "floating on the web" are from 10bit sources, since this is studio quality sources which only available on studios AND NOT SOLD or RELEASED on media or internet for anyone's consumption (never mind encoding). But hey who cares if ppl perpetuate and enforce pointless things. right? (rhetorical)

My last post here also, as all the information is now provided and further regurgitation wont help anyone.

As above, the original is 8 bit reencoded to 10bit and then reecoded back to 8bit by this "group". nothing wrong with this right? (rhetorical)
