Could someone tell me how to fix the ip on my first gen atv. It has sams image on a memory stick in it.

If you mean a static IP, edit /etc/network/interfaces:
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.x
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.x
