Win Kodi 18 DB Installation problem with KB2670838 Win7 x64

The problem we had in 17.x installers is creeping in to 18 DB as well.

When I want to upgrade kodi 16 to 18 DB, there is a prompt saying that I have to install KB2670838.

I've installed Windows6.1-KB2670838-x64.msu successfully then rebooted my computer

The prompt still appears.

I've tried to install Windows6.1-KB2670838-x86.msu too, but windows says it's not an update for my computer

Windows says that KB2670838 is already installed when I try to reinstall Windows6.1-KB2670838-x64.msu

Very sure this problem is going to continue in Kodi 18.x builds. How to fix this?

I think its been established this isn't a problem with the installer but your system. If you read the thread here you can try some of the suggestions

Thanks, but the problem persists. I even tried the below

To fully rebuild the WMI Repository follow these steps:

Disable and stop the winmgmt service
Remove or rename C:\Windows\System32\wbem\repository
Enable and start the winmgmt service
Open a CMD prompt as Administrator
In the CMD prompt Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\wbem\
Run the following command:
‘for /f %s in ('dir /b *.mof') do mofcomp %s’

Note: This will take a minute or so to complete.

Now run the command:
‘for /f %s in ('dir /b en-us\*.mfl') do mofcomp en-us\%s’

Restart the Data Collector service
Lastly, open PERFMON to verify that all counters can be loaded. If PERFMON generates a popup error, please follow this Microsoft KB to fix it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2554336/en-us

I think OS has to be reinstalled freshly...

I'll agree with your final assessment

Moving along to windows 10 has cured the issue with some, and a plain jane windows 7 has done it for others, while this thread https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2594156 pretty well offers all of the tips & tricks people have tried some with success and others not so much.

Why not drop the checking for the KB at install time, just warn 'please install KB2670838 before proceeding otherwise you would have problems later', and after Kodi is installed, in case of problem popup an optionally only once: 'your KB2670838 is wrong'.

If what you don't want is post 'complaining about Kodi not working' (supposedly because the lack of the KB mmm.. -people with the KB installed -that can't install Kodi now- won't have related problems- ) put a FAQ 'your play problems might be due to a wrong KB2670838 installation, don't ask more' .

(Or please enable again the 'Windows XP compatibility mode', it seems it worked for 17.1, but 17.3 and 18 ask for the KB even in XP mode).

A lot of people would be able to use Kodi fine, at present we cannot install it at all (I am able to 'install' unofficial portables that either don't check for the KB or do it differently).

I answered that 'answer' ("You then have 3 choices: (1) try to fix your broken WMI by googling for help; (2) reinstall Windows; (3) run the Kodi installer in XP compatibility mode,") already: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2624177 and in post #5 here.
as for reinstalling Windows, it's a 1 week ago install.

Those Kodi support answers assume keeping the problematic KB check and putting the user to deal with Windows as if that were so straightforward (and no, installing all updates is NOT a good idea, Windows is a mess; see http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/...ry.780476/ , https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2626519 ;

*I haven't seen 'why not drop the KB check' as I wrote in my previous post #5*.

Have you considered the possibility that the KB is required for Kodi to function correctly?

Yes, and I have the KB installed (and Kodi (the unofficial portables that let me install it) worked fine (videos, liveTV..., hundreds of -not banned- video addons installed) )
(until I close it but that's another issue already posted in other thread).

I'm not saying 'drop the KB requirement', I'm saying 'drop the KB *check* at install time'.

Yes I saw your other post.

We are just going around in circles...

You need KB>I have KB>It is not installed correctly>Why do I need it> and back to the start again

At the moment you are simply "flogging a dead horse". Stop trying to rebuild the world, and maybe just spend $60 on some new hardware. There are some great inexpensive suggestions here... https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252916

I don't think that's accurate, it's more like:

You need KB > I have KB > It is not installed correctly > it is installed correctly otherwise Kodi wouldn't have worked perfectly, please drop the KB check and let us install and see by ourselves if Kodi work for us or not > and back to the start again.

So let's leave at that, no more circular arguing, don't answer, just please *consider* dropping the KB check or enable that on XP mode (why would XP mode check for that Win 7 KB?).

If you don't want to update hardware, then stick with v16.1. This is the advice we always give to those experiencing problems with v17 on older hardware. I have seen some users having to revert back to v15.x due to the age and quality of their hardware.

It is a silly comparison though. Saying v16 worked but v17 does not. Kodi is in a constant state of evolution. If not, then we would all still be using XBMC v2.0. Kodi needs to keep up with advances in hardware, codecs, internet protocols etc. At some stage older equipment will just be left behind. In my case, I am expecting v18 will be the final upgrade for me before requiring new hardware. Hopefully a new graphics card will get a few more years out of my system though.

Have a read through the Audio and Video section... https://kodi.tv/kodi17
Have a read through some of the changes in v17 playback... http://kodi.wiki/view/Kodi_v17_(Krypton)...t_Playback

With the major changes made to accommodate new advances and features, comparing v16 to v17 is not correct and comes from a lack of understanding.

The "worked perfectly" I wasn't referring to 16.1 *but to 17.3 -from either of 2 unofficial portables that let me install Kodi 17.3 because they don't check the KB or check it differently than the official Kodi-.*

"Perfectly" -for me- because I installed hundreds of addons and then played videos and many liveTV streams that I tried, even 720p although I just want and care for SD.

I know you are replying to many different posters so wouldn't remember who is saying what, but I have said this many times already.

Thanks for the links and info.
